It seems so Alec Baldwin not airing the drama “Rust” any time soon.
New details about his upcoming reality series "The Baldwins" surfaced on Monday, January 27. The trailer revealed that he and his family also discuss the "Rust" tragedy during the show.

What happened on the set of the movie 'Rust'?

“Rust” was a western film that he wrote and directed Joel Souzawith Baldwin's creative input earning him recognition as a producer. That producing role would cause controversy later when he was linked to the death of the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
In October 2021, Baldwin, who also starred in an independent film, rehearsed a scene in which he pulled out a gun for the camera. In one go, the gun fired, and only one bullet left the gun. Souza was hospitalized, and while Hutchins was airlifted to a medical facility in Albuquerque, she did not survive.

Charges were dropped against Alec Baldwin in July 2024

In January 2023, Baldwin and the armadillo Hannah Gutierrez-Reed accused of manslaughter. Charges against Baldwin were dismissed in April 2023 and reinstated in January 2024. In July 2024, just three days into the trial, a witness revealed that they had been working with the prosecution to place evidence from the Gutierrez-Reed case under a new case number, thus hiding it from the defense team.

Gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was the only person sentenced to prison in Hutchins' death. In March 2024, she was sentenced to 18 months behind bars. She later reached a plea deal on an unrelated weapons charge it happened a few weeks before the shooting, which earned her another 18 months of probation.
Police were never able to determine how the live bullets ended up on the set.

'The Baldwins' will touch on the tragedy of 'Rust'

It is impossible to know from the trailer how much time will be devoted to the filming of the movie "Rust", but it has played a significant role in the actor's life in the last few years. In the trailer, Alec's wife, Hilaria Baldwinreflects on the shooting and how it affected Halyne Hutchins' young son.
"A son lost his mom in the most unimaginable tragedy," she says in the trailer. "This is never forgotten... and we try to endure it as parents."
There are also clips of "Saturday Night Live" getting emotional in the trailer. "Honestly, from the bottom of my soul. I don't know where I would be if I didn't have you and these children," he says to his wife.

Series premiere will touch on the 'Rust' trial
The two parents share a total of seven children, who will also feature heavily in the reality series. According to TLC, the series premiere will feature the couple celebrating their oldest son's ninth birthday and Baldwin's criminal trial:
"Alec and Hilaria are celebrating their eldest son Rafael's ninth birthday and, in an attempt to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, head to East Hampton to continue an annual summer tradition. But amidst the celebration is suspense as Alec faces trial. Alec and Hilaria navigate the emotional complexity of the moment, all while keeping their children's lives as stable as possible.”
The premiere is set to air on Sunday, February 23rd at 10:00 PM ET on TLC.
