Legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border was full of praise for the Indian bowling spear jasprit bumrah. Border hailed Bumrah for the recent milestone he achieved in the ongoing Test series between Australia and India and even compared him to Malcolm Marshall.
Bumrah was the bowler of choice for both teams until now. The 31-year-old fast bowler carried India's inexperienced bowling attack on his shoulders. While the rest of India's bowlers have struggled so far, Bumrah has been relentless with his wicket-taking abilities.
Jasprit Bumrah achieves a unique milestone
Jasprit Bumrah reached a significant milestone when he took the wicket Mitchell Starc on the third day of the Gabba Test. With this wicket, he completed 50 Test wickets in Australia, a huge feat.
Bumrah is now only behind the great Kapil Dev in the list of top bowlers for India in Tests on Australian soil. Kapil picked up 51 wickets in 11 Tests at an average of 24.58 with 5 five-wicket hauls.
On the other hand, Bumrah currently has 50 wickets to his name in 10 Tests at an astonishing average of 17.82 with 3 five-wicket hauls. With one more change in the ongoing Test and two more Tests to be played in this series, it is only a matter of time before Bumrah breaks Kapil Dev's record.
While talking to News Corp, Allan Border praised Jasprit Bumrah for achieving this milestone and even compared him to legendary West Indies fast bowler Malcom Marshall. Border also admitted that Bumrah releases the ball late because of his unique action which makes it even more difficult for the batsmen to read him.
“I can't properly compare him to (Malcolm) Marshall because I've never faced Bumrah, but just looking at him there's not much (between them). Bumrah is outstanding. He rarely casts a spell without taking a pass. He's different," Border said.
"Because of his action, he releases the ball later. And he's always smiling. He can beat a batsman three times in a row and smile every time. I've never seen anyone like him," he added.
Excellent bowling performance by Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has so far taken 18 wickets in the series in five Test innings. He recently scored a brilliant six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Gabba Test to finish with 6-76. He dismissed five of Australia's top six batsmen in this innings.
Bumrah is the best bowler in the series, but he lacked support from the rest of India's fast bowlers, who struggled for pace. He led the team in the first Test in Perth and almost beat India in the match.
India are in desperate need of other firing bowlers to complement Bumrah in the remaining matches of the series. Currently, the Men in Blue are struggling at the Gabba and will need a miracle to get back into the game.
