When word got out TikTok it would get dark at 5:30 pm pacific time, the marathon scrolling began.
Although it was about taking it all in, seeing how others felt and making sure we were there until the end, it was bittersweet and a bit stressful. We wanted to share what the atmosphere was like during that last hour before TikTok went dark on Saturday night.
Since we had no idea that TikTok would return to us on Sunday morning, my editor-in-chief, Heather Edwards, and I used that last hour on TikTok to gather some interesting videos to share with our readers today. And while the app is back up and running, we thought we'd share the last hour of TikTok with you as we experienced it.

Truths, facts and memories filled TikTok's FYP on Saturday night
The final long scroll on TikTok on Saturday night featured videos summarizing the creator's time on the app, sharing good memories and saying goodbye. Some videos shared news about what's happening from different perspectives, such as a video by a content creator, @Jaxwritessongs.
Her video was captioned, "Thank you guys for completely changing my life and giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams. I will forever be grateful for the friends I have made on this app. I pray that my daughter will experience a platform like this one day i'm so mad i'll never forget this chapter In the video, Jax shares some news about TikTok being banned, as well as his thoughts behind it all.

"I'm sorry sir, I thought it was a 'threat to national security' in terms of data collection," she said in response to a report calling TikTok a "potentially more powerful propaganda tool."
"Here are some fun facts. Instagram, Facebook, Google, DoorDash and Airbnb collect more data than TikTok," she continued. "TikTok has contributed more than $24 billion to the US gross domestic product and more than 224,000 jobs to the US economy."
She went on to give facts about TikTok and all the good it has done, as well as comparing TikTok to Meta.
Her video quickly went viral with more than 17 million views in one day. Many took to the comments to share their thoughts.

"And the fact that you just gave us all this information without searching is why they hate this app," one person wrote. Another said: "We are free to have an opinion, but they don't want us to have a choice."

Grandma Droniak can 'Happily expire now'
TikTok doesn't just appeal to younger generations. People of all generations have found TikTok a safe place to share their lives and Grandma Droniak is proof of that. She shares her wisdom, dating and life advice on the app. She shared a sad video to say goodbye to all her loyal followers.
"This app gave me purpose late in life. I always wanted to be famous and it made my dream come true in the 90s. Now I can pass out happy. I don't want to lose you all," he writes in the video expressing his sadness.
The video quickly went viral with over 3 million views and tons of comments of support and love.
"Oh this hurt," one viewer wrote in the comments. "Keep killing the everyday grandma. Legends never end."

In a accompanying videothe popular TikTok grandma shared her information on Instagram so fans could follow her fun antics.
Comparing 2020 with 2025
Brian Mollerknown for his playful yet informative videos, shared a video on Saturday about all the social media apps millennials have gone through. As I scrolled through, I fully expected to see his take on the gloom and doom of TikTok going dark and I wasn't disappointed when his video popped up in my FYP.
As with all of his videos, viewers were able to engage with his views and share their thoughts in the comments section.
"It's no joke that millennials have gone through all the social media ever," one person wrote. Another added: "I've been really waiting for one of your videos. So glad I at least got to see it before it gets dark. Thanks for the laugh."
A few days earlier, he shared a video about the possibility of a ban staring TikTok users.

Captioned "TikTok Time of Our Lives", it plays the roles of each popular social media app and what they would be thinking about right now. His skits not only entertain but also inform viewers, and over the years he has garnered many fans with his perspectives.
'Thank you for following me all over Vegas'
Being a Vegas resident, I knew @VegasStarfish would fall into my FYP. Watching her farewell video felt like home and brought an instant sadness about the app going dark.
"Well, that's it, my friends. It's a TikTok Swan song, and unless something major happens in the next few days, this might be my last post on the app," she began her farewell video. "Thank you for letting me share Las Vegas with you and thank you for coming along for the adventure. You have absolutely changed my life."
She shared more about her experience on TikTok and thanked the app and everyone in it.

"When my mom first moved to Vegas I was really upset but then you were at my FYP. You helped me by giving me a sense of comfort that she was there so thank you," one person wrote in the comments. Another person shared: "Thank you for all the great Las Vegas vacation suggestions. You've been extremely helpful."
After TikTok returned on Sunday morning, she shared another video about the return.
Keith Lee made the last video with Big News
A wildly popular TikTok food reviewer Keith Leewho has been a huge success on the app, shared a final video on Saturday that ended up with big news. He made sure to leave TikTok with a fun video that kept fans intrigued until the end.
"If this is my last time here, I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you all and goodbye," he said at the beginning of his video while in the car. After he gets out of the car with boxes of food for his family, the story begins.
Lee receives multiple phone calls and while we can hear what the person on the other end is saying, viewers can only hear Lee saying "mur mur mur" to add to the mystery of the big news announced at the end.

The video continues as Lee walks through his house and receives phone call after phone call. At the end of the video, he reveals his news about his new food tour and the platforms he will be sharing his new videos on.
