Multiple families are suing PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, a hospital in Vancouver, Washington, after a wrongful patient David Wellshe was said to have been taken off life support.

Here's what allegedly happened to David Wells
according to New York PostWells was taken to the medical center on August 8, 2021, after choking on a piece of steak. Wells was reported to be unconscious, not breathing, and was subsequently placed on life support.
"At one point, Mr. Wells identified himself as his roommate, plaintiff Michael Beehler," the lawsuit states. Miami Herald.
According to the outlet, hospital officials "believed it was Wells Beehler" and called Beehler's sister, Debbie Danielson, to make a "life or death" decision.
"They said, 'He's basically brain dead.' Do you want to keep him on life support, or do you want to pull the plug?'” Danielson explained to reporters.
Eventually, Danielson made the decision to take his brother off life support. Then, about a week later, Debbie Danielson allegedly received a phone call from her "dead" brother, New York Post.
"I said, 'You can't be alive. You're dead!'" Danielson reportedly recalled her reaction to her brother's phone call.

"We made end-of-life decisions for a person we don't know," Danielson's husband told reporters.

according to New York PostThe Clark County Medical Examiner's Office called Wells' family to report the tragic mix-up. However, David Wells' son, Shawn, reportedly did not learn that "strangers had decided his father's fate" until two years later.
"I'm at a loss for words at how badly they handled this," Shawn Wells told the press. "... It's worrying. I don't know if I'll get through it. They dropped the ball so badly."
Now, Shawn Wells, Michael Beehler and Debbie Danielson are reportedly suing PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The lawsuit also accuses the facility of negligence and serious emotional distress.

Additionally, according to the outlet, Wells, Beehler and Danielson are seeking an undisclosed amount at the medical center.
