Again, Rotten Tomatoes seduced me and kept me away from Nicolas Cage. Season of the witches – a dark, supernatural action-adventure fantasy film set during the Samaritan Crusade – and mostly straight-to-video content, I've lost one of our best actors. While this film is not Cage's finest hour (he's still waiting). National wealth 3 (here) in no way deserves the abysmal 11 percent critical score currently on the popular review aggregator.
My ego also went into a point of no return after watching. Season of the witches Because my theory was proven right again: if you watch enough (so-called) horror movies, sometimes you strike gold in the form of a fun movie with breakneck, frenetic action sequences and snappy dialogue.
permission Season of the witches Will it be remembered as one of the best movies of all time? Absolutely. But it's one of those movies where it rains on a Sunday afternoon. Streaming That's definitely worth your 95 minutes of time.
Good time witch
Season of the witches It was carried by Sir Behman von Blebruck (Nicolas Cage) and Sir Felson (Ron Perlman), two knights who saw their share of slaughter during their 14th-century engagements with the Smyrnaean Crusade. Behmen and Felsen, disgusted by the large-scale acts of violence committed in the name of God by all unbelievers (including innocent women and children), decided to abandon their mission and avoid the violence that would define most of their adult lives. Behmen and Felson eventually find themselves in a desert traveling through plague-stricken Styria, and a sick Cardinal Dembroids (Christopher Lee) assigns them the task of transporting Anna (Claire Foy) to a group of nuns who turn out to be a witch. A distant monastery is about to deliver a righteous judgment.
Refusal of the mission means imprisonment and eventual death by crucifixion or fire (Felson, given the luxury of choosing how to die, prefers a quick hanging), but if the two knights agree to pass through the dark forest, they receive a full pardon. Good on the presentation.
He is joined by Reverend Debelzak (Stephen Campbell Moore), the cardinal's chief bodyguard Johannes (Ulrich Thomson), map expert and con man Hagamar (Stephen Graham) and Kay von Wollenbart (Robert Sheehan), a shifty boy with knightly ambitions called Behmen. And Felson set out to find the monastery. Cardinal D'Ambroise thinks that Anna is responsible for the Black Death that is spreading in Europe Season of the witchesAnd the monastery has reason to believe that it holds the key to stopping the plagues that have died on its way.
Buddy Cop Banter for days
Having a bit of an identity crisis, Season of the witches It plays more like a buddy cop movie than an epic fantasy adventure movie. Behmen and Felsen aren't as rushed as you might think, but they seem to be having the time of their lives traversing the treacherous wilderness and getting Anna to her trial and possible execution. As war buddies during the epic battle scenes at the front of the film, they're both obsessed with violence, to the point where they crack jokes like old college roommates on a whimsical night.
While they take their mission seriously, they certainly whistle as they work to break up the thrash, giving this film a level of beauty I didn't expect.
Season of the witches It sets up a dynamic between Behmen and Felsen in the opening, frantically cut fight sequences that remind me of War Road , directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Brad Pitt. Troy. Behmen and Felson were the hero of the day before going down the hill to put hundreds of people to the sword, and after a good fight they would buy a round of beer and mead. with a dark subject in his heart Season of the witchesI appreciate how well the humor breaks the tension when things start to get serious.
Don't let the cynical critics fool you
At the end of the day, all I want is to be something other than media consumption. I had funAnd Season of the witches Check all the boxes on my bingo card, "Shine in my eyeballs." Between the epic battles, the werewolves roaming the dark woods, and the endless chemistry between Cage and Perlman, you'd be hard-pressed to find a film about the Black Plague as entertaining as this one.
If you don't believe me, consider this:
1980s Xanadu It currently has a critical score of 31 percent. Rotten tomatoesThis is a significantly higher point Season of the witches. At least the latter title actually has some plot, and not a single roller-disco song and dance routine in place of the story. Of course, Season of the witches Kublai Khan's dome of joy is disappointingly lacking, but I'm willing to stick my neck out and say that's probably for the best.
