Sunny American Transit is firing back at the insurance company, alleging that the lawsuit is part of a calculated effort to avoid financial accountability while launching a memorial campaign against his family.
In an exclusive statement Page six On Monday, Sunny claimed, "The company has filed a frivolous case against my husband as a desperate attempt to avoid paying for their medical and surgical procedures for those who were suffering from it."
The case, named Dr. Hostin and 199 other doctors, accusing them of "knowingly providing fraudulent medical and other health care practices, including arthroscopic surgery." Sunny, who is also an attorney, said the claims caused significant reputational damage and promised to hold the insurance company accountable.
Threatened $5 million countersuit
Last week, the couple said. High-profile attorney Mark Geragos was hired to defend Hostin. On Sunday, Geragos sent a letter to American Transit's legal team, threatening to counter-sue for $5 million if the lawsuit isn't dropped and an apology.
Sunny "The $5 million figure is an amount that is difficult to quantify at this time because of the reputational damage that American Transit willfully inflicted," he said, addressing the potential countersuit.
The ABC co-host accused the insurance company of using her celebrity status to escalate the situation. “They used my platform View For starting a vile media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children,” she said.
Sunny It also alleged that American Transit's actions were part of a broader pattern of unethical behavior.
"American Transit is harassing me and my family in a frantic effort to not pay its bills. Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain humble," he declared.
Claims of misconduct and financial difficulties
In his statement, Sunny accused the insurer of employing "despicable tactics" such as harassment of doctors and misuse of legal resources. He cited other legal and financial issues facing the company, including a lawsuit filed by Uber Technologies against American Transit and an alleged earlier investigation by New York State. Sunny claimed that the company was "on the brink of bankruptcy."
He ended his statement with a pointed warning: "Let me be clear, where I'm from, American Transit will get a PHD from FAFO University," using the viral acronym for "f–k around and find out."
American Transit responds
In response to Sunny and Geragos' allegations, American Transit's attorney, William Natbony of Cadwallader, Wickersham & Taft, issued a statement on *Page Six*.
"American Transit initiated its lawsuit as part of its statutory responsibility to combat no-fault fraud, which is rampant in New York," Natboni said. “The allegations in the complaint speak for themselves. As to any defendant's allegation of improper conduct by American Transit or its counsel, such claims are emphatically denied as without merit."
Dr. Hostin The lawyer, Daniel Thwaites, previously called the case "a blanket, scattered, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier."
As the case moves forward, Sunny and her legal team are redoubling their fight to protect her husband's reputation and countering what they call baseless and damaging allegations.
