Hailed as the "Thunderbolt from Down Under" upon his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth has become a top-tier movie star who has been drawing audiences ever since he dared to take Mjolnir in 2011 as Thor. Since then, his talents have expanded beyond the franchise that made him famous. So far, we've seen him play everything from a 70s race car driver to a cult leader and twisted warlord in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Who says the guy doesn't have range?
So what's next on the schedule for Hemsworth? Will the current God of Thunder stop causing a storm in the MCU? As it stands, there's no confirmation on how many more swings at Thor he may have planned, though there are other projects he's either lined up or are reported to be attached to. With a bit of comedy in there and the occasional henchman flailing in there, Hemsworth's to-do list looks interesting and there's a lot to get excited about. First and foremost, there is his inevitable return others a bad guy who has a hero who doesn't need a working tool to bring the pain because he's named after one.
Extraction 3
If you're not already an Extraction fan (or "Extractor Fan," thanks to us coining that now), there are two reasons why you absolutely should be. First, there's Netflix's 2020 non-stop action hit Extraction, which saw Hemsworth introduce the world to Tyler Rake, a black-ops mercenary with a haunting past who tore through Bangladesh like an absurdly hollowed-out hurricane. Then, in 2023, Rake is back, this time in the, ahem, cleverly titled Extraction 2 , in which he breaks out of a Georgian prison in a 21-minute one-shot for the ages. It's no surprise then that after the massive success of the franchise on the streaming service so far, Hemsworth is ready to take on even more bad guys in Extraction 3.
For now, the specifics of Rake's next mission are being kept under wraps. One detail that should get everyone excited, however, is the potential return of shady middle man/Rake Alcott (played by Hemsworth's Thor costar Idris Elba), who teased that his boss wants our hero on a new mission in " Extraction 2." Could "Extraction 3" be a two-person affair that pairs Rijk with Alcott in the field? Extraction franchise director Sam Hargrave must have teased as much when /Film interviewed him in 2023. While not wanting to give too much away, Hargrave did mention: "Maybe, who knows if Idris is involved, that would be amazing and to see these two expand this 'Extraction' universe." "What exactly is that, I can't say at this moment." Whatever happens, we hope it involves a reunion of two of the MCU's most iconic Asgardians.
Transformers/GI Joe Crossover
While the animated film Transformers One didn't set the box office on fire, Chris Hemsworth was widely praised for his voice role as the young Orion Pax, aka the one and future Optimus Prime. Dare to take on the leader of the Autobots after the legendary Peter Cullen allowed the star to carve out a space for himself in the world of shape-shifting robots - one that may be getting a little bigger thanks to another legendary toy line. Indeed, it has been reported that Hemsworth plans to move on from starring in the Transformers animated universe in starred in the Transformers crossover movie and the live-action GI Joe it was teased at the end of 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Although the film has yet to receive an official title, Hemsworth is expected to play one of the human heroes who will either confront or align with the film's robots in disguise (rather than reprising his role from Transformers One). . If things pan out, this will be Hemsworth's second attempt at playing the all-American hero after missing out on playing Konrad Hauser aka Duke in 2009's GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (a role that instead went to Channing Tatum). "Suddenly I thought: this is it, I missed it again." But then came Thor," as Hemsworth revealed during a 2020 interview with GQ Australia magazine (via Independent). Now, thanks to the actor's sheer star power, he might actually play Joe, only this time while standing next to a semi-truck that turns into a stoic Linkin Park-loving robot.
Prince Charming
The debut of The trailer for "Snow White" may have left us tired about the direction Disney continues to go down with live-action remakes of its animated classics, but Chris Hemsworth tackling a certain role in a certain project might be enough to bring us back again with House of Mouse (assuming it actually will come true ). In October 2024, news broke that Disney had approached the actor play the main role in the film about Prince Charmingthe royal himbo who struggles to remember Cinderella's face after seeing her one night and resorts to retrieving the glass slipper she left behind to find his true love.
Apparently, however, this charming tale will not include Cinderella and will instead focus solely on the prince who caught the attention of that fateful night when he went out on the town with a pumpkin as her ride. The latest update from Castle was that Wonka and Paddington director Paul King is set to helm the film and will also be writing the film's script alongside Simon Farnaby and John Crocker.
At a time when the gaps between the release of Disney's animated films and their live-action remakes (We see you, Moana), it would be interesting to see if a Prince Charming-led Cinderella spin-off could work. Similar projects like "Maleficent" and "Cruella" have enjoyed success in the past, so perhaps this one will also prove to be a smash hit.
Thor 5
While there is an ever-growing schedule of big and small screen offerings from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, nothing has been confirmed about a fifth Thor movie just yet. That doesn't mean the hammer-wielding hero at the center of it all isn't considering a return to the MCU. After a somewhat disappointing reception from critics and audiences for Thor: Love and Thunder , Chris Hemsworth has expressed interest in taking another swing at the Norse god, mainly because he feels the fans deserve it. In an interview with A vanity fairthe actor admitted that Thor had somewhat lost his way in his last solo outing, which saw the deaths of Janes Foster (Natalie Portman) and a wasted villain in Christian Bale's character as Gor the Butcher God. "I got caught up in improv and slyness and became a parody of myself." "I didn't stick the landing," Hemsworth admitted.
Coming in 2022 on Happy Sad Confused Podcast.the actor gave the impression that he was unsure about Thor's future in the franchise he helped bring to blockbusters. "I don't know if I've even been invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity... (laughs) Thor has lost his mind. That last one he should realize now ", as Hemsworth said. In the House of Ideas that is the Marvel Universe, it really could be anything, but we're sure Hemsworth's Norse god hero will eventually achieve something.
