Samara weaves in a funny, moody criminal caper

There is moral tension in the heart of films for criminals who often appear unpaid. Namely, the idea that crime is generally not something to strive for or proud. This morality is essentially conventional wisdom and does not require it to be fully said, certainly not after the days of the Chase code, imposing a moral message about numerous crime films. Most crime films (and, in the end, TV shows) after the collapse of the production code took one of the few approaches, such as presenting criminals in the form of a founded character study (with a view not having to be equated with approval), or as loved ones or as well as theirs. All this is in the service of the audience a pleasant enjoyment, getting a little excitement in a few hours on how the rules could be broken.

As such, there are not too many crime films trying to mix the exciting excitement with sober morality, fearing that they may have deflated the former or glittering the latter. Eeni Meidi, a new crime film Capper, is that rare film that is trying to encompass both qualities. Produced by Ret Reese and Paul Wernder ("The guys who wrote Dudpul", "" As one of the posters for the movie mentions), ads and trailers for the film make it seem like the type of stormy, silly, action -packed film from which movie from which movie from The creators of "Zombiland" would be. However, writer/director John Simmons made a very different and multilayer film than it originally seems.

Simmons, who has been a television writer for the last 20 years and recently worked on "Johnon Wick" turns "Continental" And Amazon's "Wayne" Premier (whom Reese and believer were writers) approaching his first feature film with sensibility that feels similar to Jimim McBride's films or Johnon McNuton. As in the films of those directors such as "The Great Light" or "Normal Life", Eeni Messie is a mix of and exciting exciting films and characters' drama. It is not a light mix, and the film does not always take it gracefully. However, thanks to Simmons' ambition, an incredible trick, and especially the leading performance of Samara weaving, Eeni Meisi ends up as a satisfactory well -rounded experience.

Annie Meisi needs some time to find the focus

While Eeni Meisi has not lit new paths regarding his plot or character, the way Simmons organizes and represents these elements is unique enough that it is difficult to say where the movie goes until you are deep in it. Unlike other crime films, however, "Annie Meidi" does not play around with a chronology or point of view, so while it takes a minute to focus, it is also very clear. After opening the retrospective in which 14-year-old Eddie (El Graham) is under pressure to behave as a fugitive driver for her father, father of a small time (Steve Zan), the film jumps to today 15 years later, where the adult is now (weaving). She left behind her criminal past and goes to college in the community and works as a bank narrator in her hometown of Cleveland, oh.

There is hardly any action in this first act of the film, something Simmons is too eager to attract our attention, to diminish the scene sharply when we seem to move away from police officers with the young Eddie or Witness Ad. Eddy, undressing some thugs who rob her bank. Simmons teases our desire to get some action, as well as to treat his arrival as malicious inevitability, in the same way that criminal life is increasingly breathing Eddie's neck. After Eddie reveals that she is pregnant for several months, she has been following her former Johnon (Carl Glavman), to tell him the news, only to discover that he has entered another chaos or death after crossing the old Eddie chief, crime Kingpin Nico (Andy Garcia). To clear Johnon's debt to Nico, Lord for Crimes touches Eddie to withdraw Heist at Casino Toledo, stealing a poker prize charger at the $ 3 million cash poker prize in the trunk. "Eeni Meidi" is an action movie in a much more traditional sense than what audiences got used to a post-won landscape. It is not an action from Wallid to Wallid by any means, as Simmons carefully collects the moments when the film's uplifiers arrive. However, when the film starts at high speed, it is hard to hit, thanks to a great extent to which Simmons approaches the action from the point of view of the country to the ground. Again, unlike recent action films such as "Ballerina", " "Novokain" or "Working Man", "" Eeni Meisi does not seek to go too much over the top. Instead, Simmons and his trick coordinators (Keith Campbell, Nicholas Boss, Paul Ennings and Michael B. Nsonson) give the film some gruesome authenticity in the fist brawl and her cars. The WIBS is not a "fast x" or "bad boys II" historics, but on that "After a valid point", "Dirty Mary Ludi Larry" and "Proof of Death".

For this reason, Simmons receives a tone of mileage from what may otherwise be an appetizer in favorable action. The end of the end at the end may be an ordinary garnish for Michael Bay's likes, but Eeni Messie is a spectacle worth the price of reception. This approach to the action is indicative of the entire film working at the level of old school. Being clear, "Eeni Meidi" (despite some of his Grindhouse-style marketing) is not a homage to Tarantino-ESK, but a sincere attempt to make today's crime film. For action, unwanted like me, this film is a case of quality over the quantity.

Eeni Messie is very funny, which can undermine film drama

One of the most important sides of Eeni Meidi is his acting ensemble, as it is very clearly early to play. Andy Garcia is, of course, a welcome presence as always, carries gravitates in the mafia while making it probably unusual. His Consiglier, George (Mike O'Mali), is a character that allows both actors to become a double act, leading to some great humor and drama. It is that mixture for which Simmons is so obvious after, and nowhere is better than in the performance of a glossing as Johnon. A glassman has an awkward needle to thread with this character, making it all at once comic book relief, romantic leadership and wild cards. It is a combination that would easily destroy smaller actors and pulls it with high school graduation.

No matter how much the cast is, they cannot always allow Eeni Meisi to shoot all cylinders at all times. Simmons' tone and approach, Elmor Leonard-Light, demand that irreversibility and sincerity share the scene at the same time, and while someone like Tarantino or Paul Thomas Anderson can find that balance, occasionally avoiding the film for the first time. It also has an extra part of twisting that includes Perm's character (Marshan Lynch) that makes the center of the centers, yet introduces a wild card too much to keep the emotional earthing that Simmons has built. Again, the film ends up feeling structural sound, but there are a few holes on the road on the road there.

Samara weaving proves that there is a range for other genres over horror

The Starvala of Eeni Messie and the reason to see - except for those traffic and flips, ie. is weaving, and she is absolutely the most valuable player in the movie. So far, the film career of weaving has been primarily supported or leading characters in horror films, with the actress demonstrating a sense of indication, fear and elasticity as the greatest means in her tool. All those aspects come into play in her performance as Eddie here, but she still shifts her last girlfriend Huspach in the regime of acting beautifully. Weaving is equally loaded vulnerability and internal hardness It carries the film and helps care to overcome it over its stricter places. Quite simply, the film may not work without it.

After all, the biggest negative element in "Eeni Meidi" is something that is not her fault, which is that it is another original adult film thrown to the streaming service. The only blend of film tones and aesthetics is things that really make them stand out in a theater setting and can easily allow to fade in the background in the middle of so many other streaming contributions. Even the result of Bobby Krlic (aka Haksan gown), which sounds mostly as a typical Hollywood result until you hear it closer and start choosing strange metal touches to it, it can turn into some form of white noise for the audience that just puts the film in the background. The anniversary theater itch is used to allow new directors to stretch the room and play around with the genre of the way it makes Eeni Messi. I can only hope that the film makes enough influence to allow Simmons to do some more intriguing experiments (and allow weaving to lead a few more action movies) instead of just leaving a small cloud of dust behind.
