In memory title cards are one of the highest honors a TV or film production can bestow on a deceased cast or crew member. Sometimes, the words "in loving memory" appear at the end of a series or movie based on a true story, making it even more poignant by quietly acknowledging the death of one or more subjects. Other times, it's a key member of the creative family who built the story to be honored—a screenwriter, actor, director, producer, author, musician, stuntman, or any number of other crew members.

Then there are times when a movie or show honors someone whose name the audience doesn't immediately recognize or can't relate to the show in question. Taylor Sheridan's blockbuster Yellowstone included a few surprises in the memory a tribute through the years, celebrating the lives of everyone from the beat and the creator of the boost Billy Ray Clapper (who, to be fair, did appear on the show once) of a singer-songwriter John Prine and Wilford Brimley, the former spokesman for Liberty Medical who still had many cowboy roles on screen never appeared on Yellowstone at all.

Yellowstone also paid tribute to an unrecognized crew member and possible transportation and location coordinator Melanie Olmsted in one episode, and it's far from the only show to feature someone in death who didn't seem to appear in the project's credits in life. The same thing happened on the Fox medical drama The Resident in 2022, when someone named Chris Harrell was mentioned in the credits at the end of the season 6 premiere.

Harel's name appears at the end of "Two Hearts," an episode in which Leela's twin sister Padma (Aneesha Joshi) undergoes a risky procedure when she discovers she is pregnant with twins, one undeveloped. At the end of the episode, the words "In loving memory of Chris Harrell" appear on the screen. According to LooperHarrell's name never appeared in The Resident's official credits, and while there are several Chris Harrells — production assistant, producer, actor and director — listed on IMDb, none of them appear to be deceased.

Thanks to research done by Looper and other sites, we know that Harrell was a member of Teamsters Local 728, an Atlanta-based union that often works with film and TV productions. Nationally, the Teamsters is a grassroots labor group with a rich history, and its members include everyone from delivery drivers to sanitation workers to animal wranglers and location scouts. A public GoFundMe fundraiser formed in Harrell's honor includes a commentary indicating that he was a member of the film community and also reveals details of his cause of death. The fundraiser, listed on the site as Michael Freeman, wrote that Harrell "died unexpectedly during a medical procedure and leaves behind a loving family and countless friends." The loving tribute noted that Freeman was part of the "auto racing community" and stated that he "worked hard at whatever job was assigned to him, but was equally driven when pursuing his hobbies. Everyone he meets," it added. "He was a friend."

Fans of "The Resident" don't know exactly how Harrell contributed to the medical drama, making it his own in the memory – and many others like it – a reminder to recognize the work that goes on behind the scenes of our favorite movies and shows on all levels. It's also a much-needed reminder, in keeping with the life-and-death drama of the medical show itself, for each of us to give flowers to the people who help us throughout our lives when they're still with us.
