On April 25, 2025, the film adaptation of "To Dawn" was published in cinemas. Received mixed reception: with 53% critics rating of rotten tomatoes, audience rating of 67% and a 5.7/10 rating of IMDB, the film was generally considered a disappointment. Of course, it was not a disaster - with a relatively low budget of $ 15 million, its $ 53 million crafts around the world were not half bad. But it was not yet the escape of the hit the creators hoped for, and in a few weeks it felt as if the world had already forgotten the film.
It turns out, however, that the "dawn" has found a second streaming life. Currently it is #2 Netflix's most watched movie this weekAt least among the American audience. Viewers may not have been able to collect the motivation to see "Dawn" in the cinema, but they seem to be interested enough to click on the game of the comfort of their homes.
Most importantly, viewers seem to be ready to forgive the film for their biggest sin: although it is based on the popular video game with horror "to dawn", the film is very much, it's its own special work. There is a different conspiracy with different characters, to the point that it feels like sacrificing some fans even named this film by "Dawn" in general. This frustrated many fans of the game game, as those brutal comments on YouTube under the trailers of the movie.
Feels like "to dawn" is Trapped in the situation "10 lane of Cloverfield": They mislead the viewers by taking the name of the previous job that feels too different, but they may not have been given a chance if they were sold as an original property.
To dawn may not be a faithful adaptation of video games, but it's not bad
But similar to "10 Cloverfield Lane", the original approach to telling stories at Dawn (2025) was appreciated by viewers who want to take it on their own conditions. Critic Allison Forman from Varieties, who criticized the unused title, Still gave the movie credit To be a "inventive experiment with shoots of explosive humor that manages to have a serious entertainment ... if not always with design". There are really a lot of things to enjoy the movie "To Dawn", provided you put the video that claims to be adapted from your mind. That's a big request for many, I know, but it's worth a try.
In his 8 out of 10 review for the movie/Own Bill Bria on the film described the film as "Most Horror Film of the Year", Writing:
"Although the film is deliberately not a repeat of the video game plot, it absolutely adapts the implicit concept of the game to ask the player if they could actually survive a horror movie or not." Until the dawn "The movie Subtext, Subtext, asks those questions from its spectators around the world, and with so many different Asters to meet, the answers will vary for every person alone, never bothered more people. Stuck in one regime even when establishing their own structure."
It is especially healthy to see how to win "Dawn" these days, because director David F. Sandberg seemed so passionate about the film during his stamping tour earlier this year. In Exclusive interview with /film This April, he talked about how making the film allowed him to "come out" with the practical effects in a way he "wanted to do forever". As he explained, "even in the previous horror films I did, they were a kind of supernatural and not so weak, or not so much. So, this was a real chance to finally let everyone go and experience all of these things and try the genres I haven't worked before, as well."
Sandberg seized his chance to do something completely new, as a director and as a "dawn" fan. The results may not have led to a miracle from the box office, but it is clear that there are definitely viewers there who appreciate his franchise.
