Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew borrowed ideas from Disney's flopsand the series is a huge love letter to Amblin and countless adventure stories. Needless to say, John Watts and Christopher Ford's foray into a galaxy far, far away wears its influences on its sleeves, and episode 5, "You've Got a Lot to Learn About Pirates," is no different. It's actually an homage to the beloved '80s movie about a group of young friends who set out to find a hidden lair full of treasure - similar to the adventure that takes place in this episode.

Skeleton Crew episode 5 sees Jodh Na Nabood (Jude Law), SM-33 (Nick Frost) and the kids continue their search for The mysterious planet Aten in the Star Wars galaxy.. However, they are forced to stop on Lanupa after learning of the hidden treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Renaud, which may contain the coordinates needed to find the children's home - and spell trouble for them.

However, fans of 80s adventure movies may be reminded of The Goonies after watching episode 5. In addition to the similarities between the two stories, the name of said pirate is Donner spelled backwards. This is a reference to the director of The Goonies, the the late Richard Donnerwho once gave sound advice to the creators of the Skeleton Crew.

John Watts and Christopher Ford are masters of telling stories about children in danger. Their horror film "Clown" tells the story of a father who wants to party with the youngsters after donning a demonic circus costume. Cop Car is about kids who are hunted by a scary sheriff after his car is stolen. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew is about kids forced to navigate a galaxy far, far away and its various dangers. During an interview with GamesRadar+Watts revealed how Richard Donner helped him learn how to tell stories with children, which he brought into the Star Wars universe.

“I got this advice from Richard Donner, who I was lucky enough to be friends with just before he died. because of who they are."

Watts explained that Donner's advice was in mind when casting the show's young heroes — Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), KB (Kirianna Crater) and Neil (Robert Timothy Smith) — and it paid off. . Skeleton Crew boasts outstanding performances from its young cast members, and they wouldn't look out of place in a movie like The Goonies.
