As much as we love to cover the careers of prominent actors like The star of the "Spider-Man" franchise, Zendaya or The main character of "Mad Max: Fury Road" Tom Hardythere's something uniquely exciting about watching the work of a fast-rising star like Louis Partridge. Since appearing in Netflix's Enola Holmes opposite Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, the 21-year-old English actor has appeared in some high-profile films and TV shows, building his resume under visionaries like Matthew Out. and Oscar winners Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuarón.
Currently, Partridge seems set to set the world on fire in the next few years, starring in Stephen Knight's Guinness House and George Jacques' Sun Dancer. He's also set to appear in Noah Baumbach's next film, and will seemingly helm a new (non) action franchise for Vaughn. If you want to meet someone who might be one of the key young actors of the late 2020s, you'll definitely want to check out the movies and TV shows below.
About Argy
Argylle had a bit of a rough go when it was released in early 2024. Although we at /Film have discovered that it is a wild, twisted and mostly satisfying romantic action comedycritics were widely scathing about Matthew Vaughn's spy rant—the icy reception that played a role in its an unimpressive opening weekend of $17.4 million. By the time it left theaters, it hadn't even earned $100 million at the worldwide box office, against an admittedly ridiculous budget of $200 million. Still, for fans of Vaughn, spy films, and especially Louis Partridge, Argyle is a must-see.
The film follows writer Ellie Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) as she unwittingly becomes embroiled in a world of spies, secret organizations and crime lords. Her spy novels (which themselves follow a fictional operator named Argyle, played by Henry Cavill) are apparently so realistic and well-written that they border on the prophetic, making her authorial brain an invaluable asset to the evil division.
Given its abysmal box office numbers, it's likely that readers of this article haven't heard much about Argyle beyond its viral marketing campaign, with its mystery novelist, Taylor Swift connections, and fueled interest in Agent Argyle's true identity. But the film boasts more than superficial intrigue. His biggest action scene is arguably one of the best romantic movie moments of 2024, and Vaughn's signature colorful touch is more fearless here than in his adaptations of other works. As for the partridge, it would be a huge spoiler for us to even talk about who he's playingand he's not in the movie much. However, if you're a fan of his, you'll definitely want to give Argyle a watch, as it could very well shape the next chapter of his career as an actor.
Medici: The Magnificent
For fans of historical epics, Netflix's Medici hits the spot. Made in Italy, it depicts the lives of the powerful Medici family, who ruled over Florence in the 15th century.
Lewis Partridge joined the series for its third season as Piero de' Medici, the eldest son of Lorenzo "The Magnificent" de' Medici (Stuart Martin). Most of the season focuses on concluding Lorenzo's story, as he was the show's protagonist after a 20-year time jump after the end of season 1. His controversial decisions while serving as Lord of Florence begin to have unexpected consequences, corroding the trust of his advisors. , friends and family, as well as his own moral compass.
The series takes a slightly ahistorical approach to Lorenzo's end, steering him towards the same fate in a significantly darker way. Pierrot then must reckon with even greater responsibility in his youth as he tries to understand how his family and home have radically changed before his eyes. It may not be a history lesson, but Medici offers an accessible window into a unique political world, along with plenty of excitement and some compelling performances, particularly from Partridge.
A gun
If contemporary biopics are more your thing, Lewis Partridge excels in the FX miniseries Pistol, which follows the musical journey of English punk band the Sex Pistols. Directed by Danny Boyle and based on guitarist Steve Jones' autobiography Lonely Boy: Sex Gun Stories, it looks primarily at their history from Jones' perspective. Partridge has a meaty supporting role as Sid Vicious, the band's darkly enigmatic bassist.
The actor was cast as Vicious almost immediately after starring in Netflix's Enola Holmes, a young-adult mystery starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill in the Sherlock Holmes universe. "I was worried about being typecast as a posh kid with floppy hair - and here I am playing Sid Vicious..." he said. Rolling Stone in 2022.
Indeed, the two artists led very different lives, with Partridge having to consult an expert to better understand the role drugs played in the rock star's life. He died of a heroin overdose in 1979 aged 21 - just two years older than Partridge while filming Pistols. "I just tried to understand him," he said of playing the controversial figure. “(the behavior of the evil one) comes from a place of insecurity... He sees a crowd and acts according to them; he wants to get a reaction because he just wants some attention and love. I feel sorry for him in that respect, but as well as being the innocent Sid, he was also that other Sid at many points in his life."
The series is as raw and powerful as the band that inspired itand Partridge shines in every one of his scenes. Unfortunately, because Disney has made the decision to withdraw a bewildering number of shows from both Disney+ and Huluit is difficult if at all possible to watch.
Disclaimer
If it was difficult to write about "Argyle" without revealing the twists that make it worth watching, "Disclaimer" is almost impossible. Written and directed by Oscar-winning author Alfonso Cuarón and starring equally acclaimed actors Cate Blanchett and Kevin Klinetells three intertwined stories that together have the potential to destroy multiple lives—that is, if you can believe any of those stories at all. Today's two stories follow different perspectives on the feud between documentarian Catherine Ravenscoft (Blanchette) and writer and academic Stephen Brigstocke (Klein). Stephen believes that Catherine is responsible for the death of his son Jonathan, and he enters Catherine's life with a novel that purports to tell the story of why.
In the third story, Lewis Partridge stars as Jonathan Brigstocke, destined to meet his demise after a passionate romantic affair with young Catherine (Leila George). Following the rock and roll style of the Pistols, it was a very different working environment for Partridge. "I enjoyed (shooting 'Pistols') and I enjoyed joking around on set and being physical," he said. Collider. "(But) Jonathan was very informed by what Alfonso was looking for, so I felt tightly tied to a lot of it because he had a specific shot or held a position."
However, Partridge seemed more than excited to take on this challenge, as he was working with the caliber of artists he had always dreamed of. "My word, sharing a screen with (Blanchette) is unreal," he marveled. "It was also just a huge confidence booster to know that Alfonso even wanted me there and trusted me in that role and to tell a story alongside these people at the top of their game." It was amazing."
Enola Holmes
Of course, as his first major starring role, we had to include Netflix's Enola Holmes on this list. The film tells the story of the titular heroine (Millie Bobby Brown), the younger sister of the famous private detective Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) and the much less famous bureaucrat Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin). When two brothers try to send her to boarding school after the sudden disappearance of her mother (Helena Bonham Carter), Enola finds herself unexpectedly wrapped in a mystery.
The focus of her investigation happens to be Viscount Tewkesbury, a romantic but slightly confusing boy played by Lewis Partridge. For some unknown reason, Tewksbury is targeted for assassination by the mysterious assassin Linthorne (Bourne Gorman). While we won't spoil how this plot unfolds, Partridge is perfectly cast in the role and plays off Brown's hyper-intellectual Holmes remarkably well. Both actors were still teenagers when they worked on the film, and Partridge auditioned in the middle of final exams at school.
"I learned how to balance laughing and joking on set from Millie while also getting on with the real serious business," Partridge shared with The Gentleman's Journal. “I also learned how helpful it can be to really get along with who you're working with. It can give you complete freedom to try new things and not feel embarrassed when they don't go right.
Partridge is also introduced in the sequel Enola Holmes 2, which some claim is even better than the first.
