Fans of the Masters of the Universe franchise might finally get an updated live-action adaptation of Mattel's toy-turned-cartoon series, the first since A rather interesting effort by Gary Goddard from 1987. Although the film has been in and out of development for years, starting on Netflix before being scrapped and then picked up by Amazonit now appears to be on track for a 2026 release with a red-hot rising star at the center. Helmed by "Bumblebee" director Travis Knight from a script by "Paranorman" writer Chris Butler, "Masters of the Universe" will star "The Idea of You," "Bottom" and "Red, White and Royal Blue" Nicholas Galitzin. as Prince Adam, better known as the heroic He-Man.
This casting news has been around for a bit and seems kind of odd, as the handsome Brit is generally a bit on the weak side and Prince Adam is an absolute rip off. However, a photo posted on Galitzin's Instagram story on December 19 showed the actor bulking up and starting to look a lot more like he could be taking on the evil skeleton, beastman, or one of the many weirdos trying to cause trouble in Eternia. There may still be some skeptics, but Galitzin is shaping up to be a pretty decent He-Man.
Nicholas Galitzin looks like a fan of A Christmas Story on Instagram
In the photo posted on his Instagram story, which has since expired, but it was captured for posterity by FilmUpdates on TwitterGalitsin is standing next to a Christmas tree wearing a long-sleeved shirt and shorts. The first thing He-Man fans might notice is his hair, which has been lightened and grown, but his physique has also changed quite a bit. He looks positively buff even under the long-sleeved shirt, and will likely continue to get more ripped as production approaches. I just hope he incorporates learning "What's Up" from Four Blondes at karaoke along with his weight training. (If you know, you know.)
The image is kind of exciting because it means that a Masters of the Universe movie is actually probably happening after a few years in production limbo, but it's also a little worrying because it's a reminder of unrealistic standards are held by actors in relation to their bodies. Steroid use and intentional dehydration can have serious effects on people's bodies, and no one should have to compromise their health just to look a certain way, even if it's on the silver screen. Hopefully Galitzine trains safely and swells with lots of lifting and a healthy diet, and nothing else.
The Masters of the Universe movie is expected to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
