This post contains spoilers For the "last of us" season 2, Episode 3.
"The Last of Us" Season 2 It remains quite loyal to the video game so far, but there are several key changes, several of which refer to the character of Tommy (Gabriel Luna). As early as season 1, it was revealed that his wife Maria (Routina Wesley) was pregnant, and in season 2, we introduce their son, who does not exist in the games. In episode 3, there is another major change in Tommy.

In "The Last of Us Part II", Tommy is the first to go to Seattle in search of the group that killed ELOEL. He is also angry that Elloel has been killed, but admits that Eli is determined to try to hunt his killers, so to keep her safe, he decided to go out alone before he could go on her mission. Eli and Dina are chasing after leaving Acksexon, leading to the entire group to hunt Abi (Caitlin Dever) in Seattle.
Season 2 of HBO adaptation changes things. Instead of Tommy being the one who goes to Seattle, it is Eli (White Ramsey) and Dinah (Isabella Merced) who leave their consent, largely fueled by their own commitment to the search. Tommy Tells tells Eli that he wants to go, but he climbs to the Acksexon Council and what is considered good to the community. When community leaders do not vote to follow Abi, he stands with his wife. This change in motivations can have some major consequences later in the story, and she plays in some of the previous changes in Tommy's image in the show.

Tommy is more Kindubesis Lik in the last show
Tommy's Gabriel Luna version is a little softer than the one seen in the video games, and not only that he does not immediately jump in revenge after ELOEL's death. The HBO series plays a little more like ELOEL foil - someone who was protected from his older brother throughout his life, but who also understands the ways in which Eloel flirted with real darkness in his soul. Don't make a mistake: he still wants revenge on the show. He tells Eli so much, and we know that he votes in favor of the execution of Abi. But he does not allow his sadness to become comprehensive as he does, or the way he does Elloel in season 1 after losing his daughter.

These changes make sense in the context of a TV show, where the accompanying characters get more breathing space. In video games, characters like Tommy do not get the same degree of perspective or in the spotlight because focus is always more on the characters that can be played. It also makes sense to distinguish Tommy, offering a third point of different on the triangle that he is, ELOEL and Eli - each has his own relationships with the basic topics of violence and loyalty.
HBO's Tommy may mean even greater changes for the last of us
If you have played "the last of us part II", you will know that Tommy has a presidential impact on Eli's journey during that game. Without getting into spoilers, its new, softer behavior can predict the larger narrative changes along the line. We probably won't know in season 2 of "The Last of Us", because it only covers part of the video game. There are times much later in the original version where Tommy casts a long shade - the material that is likely to be saved for season 3 and even possible fourth season, if Craig Mazin and Neil Drakman decide to continue the show for so long.

Regardless, it's hard to reconcile TV's Tommy's version with some of those moments in the game. "The Last of Us" has already made a number of changes To the source material of HBO, often in favor. Since things are progressing forward, it should be interesting to see how the adaptation changes things around this new version of Tommy.
