'You're chasing an IITian': Viral car sticker draws mixed reactions online

For many students in India, securing admission in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is an esteemed and prestigious milestone. Of course, graduating from an IIT is seen as a matter of pride. However, an IIT graduate's attempt to flaunt this achievement did not go down well with social media users who termed it arrogant and "super awesome".

The controversy started when he posted a photo of a car sticker. "You're after an IITian" started circulating online. Image, shared in the Reddit group r/JEENEETardscaught a car stuck in traffic with the sticker prominently displayed on the right side. A message to those behind the car read: “You're after an IITian, but that's okay. We are used to it."

The post quickly gained traction on social media, sparking a variety of reactions. While many found the sticker "disgusting", others defended the car's owner, arguing that cracking one of the toughest tests in the world gives them full bragging rights.

One user commented, "I cringed when I read this, which made me think there was someone who didn't cringe and had this stuck on their car without a doubt." Another added, "Super Cringe. Only low keys are inflected like that. Even when a Harvard grad introduces himself without saying Harvard, he says, 'I went to school in Boston.'"

An IIT graduate also weighed in on the post, saying: "I've really stopped telling people where I study because of that bullshit."

On the other hand, one user defended the owner of the car, saying: "No shit, they've taken one of the hardest tests in the world while you're unemployed at your parents' house in your 30s living off your dad's money."

Another user said: "These people fight so much to clear IIT that they have nothing else to flex."

The Reddit post shared a few days ago has since garnered over 3,500 upvotes and over 200 comments.
