Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has revealed the Premier League champions' dressing room was "sad and sad" following Sunday's dramatic derby defeat to Manchester United.
Foden returned to City's starting XI after is recovering from an injurybut struggled to make an attacking impact on a largely stagnant competition. Pep GuardiolaThe team rarely came close to scoring again after Josko Guardiol headed home Kevin De Bruyne's cross in the 36th minute.
United posed little discernible threat in their own right, but stole all three points with two goals in as many dying minutes. Defeat leaves City's Challenge for the Premier League title in tatters and with just one win in 11 games in all competitions.
Reflecting immediately after the match, Foden sighed: "I can't put my finger on what's going on. I thought the performance was more than good to get a result but we came away with no points and it seems to be the same story at the moment .
"The locker room will obviously be down and sad," Foot he added, before offering some form of reunion, "but we can't dwell on this too much - we have to try to recover.
"It's about keeping the mentality strong for the whole 90 minutes and we're not doing that at the moment. We have to go again and show character to come back from this humiliation. It's not a time to moan - it's about sticking together, staying strong and let's go again, I'm sure we'll be back."
Foden's teammate Bernardo Silva was rather more emphatic in his review of the game. Portuguese midfielder angered the City players for "stupid" mistakes and compared the reigning Premier League champions to the "Under-15" team.
Guardiola, who broke into a pit of self-doubt during this disastrous run, he has a week off to rally his deflated troops before they travel to Birmingham to face Aston Villa on Saturday.
