Tottenham won 5-0 away at Southampton on Sunday evening.

Spurs scored all five goals in the first half and took the lead in the first minute through James Maddison.

Captain Heung-min Son scored after 10 minutes, before Dejan Kulusevski added a third two minutes later.

Pepe Matar Sarer scored a clean sheet to make it 4-0 and then Maddison scored on the play.

How did it happen?

The visitors made their intentions clear from the start, taking the lead within 45 seconds.

Spence's run and full possession of the ball found Maddison, who calmly slotted past Alex McCarthy to score.

It was Tottenham's fastest Premier League goal since 2018 and set the stage for the carnage that followed.

Southampton had no time to regroup before Spurs struck again in the 12th minute.

Maddison Pinpoint's cross found the boy at the back post and the Tottenham captain slotted home to double their advantage.

Moments later, Son delivered a low cross into the box.

Although Solanke was denied by Jan Bednarek's sliding tackle, Kulusevski tapped in the rebound to make it 3-0.

Southampton's defense broke down and Spurs capitalized further in the 25th minute.

Sarr latched on to Son's pass and danced past Wood to score Tottenham's fourth. Southampton fans could only watch in despair as the relentless visitors continued to dominate.

The first half ended with Maddison getting a second goal in the final hour.

Son's delightful clipped pass found Maddison in the box and the playmaker expertly cut inside before firing into the far corner to end the first-half rout.

The Saints tried to salvage some pride in the second half, creating a number of chances through Adam Armstrong and Dom Ballard, the winner of his life.

But Fraser Forster, returning to his former club, was equal to their efforts, making crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.

Southampton struggled to break through a resolute Spurs defense and the visitors came close to adding a sixth when substitute Brennan Johnson narrowly missed the target from Timo Werner's cross.

The win was Tottenham's biggest away win under Postcoglou and was five goals in the first half of the Premier League.

It was a humbling night for Southampton that marked the difference between them and the league's top teams.
