Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is having a torrid time with the bat in the ongoing Test series against the Australian cricket team. His woes continued even in the ongoing third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is underway at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Rohit Sharma came out to bat at No. 6 during the fag end of Day 3. The captain did well to remain unbeaten at the stumps and was expected to set the stage on fire in the ongoing game. With India under immense pressure, many backed the captain to lead from the front.
Rohit Sharma scores another low in the series, being removed by Pat Cummins for the 6th time in Test cricket
But that was not to be the case as Rohit Sharma scored another low in the series. The batsman got off to a pretty good start when he left the ball and also played some great attacking. However, his stay in the wing was cut short by Australian captain Pat Cummins.
Pat Cummins pitched a fuller delivery near the stumps which was poked by Rohit Sharma. The batsman played with firm hands as the ball took an outside edge, which keeper Alex Carey safely scooped up behind the stumps.
Rohit Sharma finished his innings with 10 runs off 27 balls and also hit two boundaries in his innings. This marked the third consecutive failure in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With this, the captain of the Indian national cricket team has come under massive scanner.

Amidst all this, Rohit Sharma sparked rumors of his retirement with his gesture. As he walked toward the locker room, the batter left his gloves in front of the dugout, just behind the scoreboard.
This led many fans to speculate about his retirement and came up with several reactions:

The worrying part was that Rohit Sharma never looked like surviving the spell from Pat Cummins. Worked and knocked out, his gloves are now left lying outside the dugout.#AusvInd pic.twitter.com/Q0Y6zl4tSt

It will be a great decision if he decides to retire as hitting the red ball has really become difficult for him. pic.twitter.com/eYmImydgbs
Rohit Sharma's sudden decline in Test cricket was the biggest cause of concern for the Indian team
Rohit Sharma, in the midst of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scored just 19 runs in three innings on the tour of Australia as his miserable run continued. The skipper has already announced his retirement from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup and it will not be a surprise if he devotes time to his career in Tests as well.
Rohit Sharma's sudden decline in Test cricket is worrying. He looked brilliant in England's home series in February earlier this year. However, he looked awful in the second half of the year as he failed in both the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. With two more Tests remaining in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Indian captain.
