Saturday's draw against Everton was very disappointingespecially coming off the back of a Champions League win against Monaco.
I was hoping that a midweek win would lift Arsenal into the weekend, but it didn't happen. Everton arrived with a game plan and Arsenal didn't seem to have an answer.
You can talk about fatigue and point out that Everton had ten days to rest and prepare for the game, but Mikel Arteta's side should have found a way past them.
They had a lot of possession and a lot of possession, but to be honest they didn't look like they were scoring and that was disappointing. It didn't look like he had any idea how to destroy Everton.
I liked the look of the starting XI when it was announced. It looked good from both sides, with both players playing in their natural positions. But I can only imagine that most of the players had an off day.
It should be noted that Everton played well. They have been drilled very well and you can see that they have spent the last ten days working on how to upset Arsenal.
Arsenal's ADVANCED deal revealed!
They denied them space, especially under the right hand and kept things very strong in the middle areas.
But it was as if Arsenal were playing better than Everton were playing better. Martin Odegaard has not looked good and has not been in the last few games and we know how that has affected this Arsenal side.
When Odegaard is there, Arsenal are a completely different proposition. It's just undeniable. But when they are absent or struggling to find form, they have no one to emulate what they do.
Mikel Merino played with him on Saturday and you can see that he is still active in the Arsenal team. He didn't do anything wrong against Everton, but he didn't add anything in attack.
He wasn't a real threat and you didn't feel like he was going to be a prize-winner in Everton's defence.
In hindsight it's a surprise, but I would have liked to have seen Mikel Arteta instead of Merino and Ethan Nwaneri when the youngster came on early in the second half. Having Nwaneri and Odegaard working close to each other in their pockets in front of Everton's back four would have given the visitors something different to think about.
Instead it was all very predictable and they ended up looking very comfortable. There was no real late siege on their goal, in fact Jordan Pickford was not tested in the last half hour. Arsenal ran out of ideas.
Marcus Rashford's name always seems to pop up when it comes to Arsenal these days.
He always seems to be part of the conversation, especially among the fans, and it could be that way again as we approach January because of what is going on with him at Manchester United at the moment.
Do I think he would be an opportunity for Arsenal? I don't think so to be honest. I am not sure that he is what they are missing.
If he was still the Rashford of a few years ago then my opinion would be different. But if that was the case then he would have been playing for one week, last week at United right now.
But he is not and there is a reason for that. So if Arsenal, or anyone else, were to make a move in January then they would be doing so in the hope of regaining his best form.
It would be a bit of a gamble. Similar to what Arsenal did with Raheem Sterling in the summer and it wasn't a gamble that paid off. Rashford would be very expensive.
I think Arsenal should produce something in January. It is clear that they need at least one more viable option in the final third, although it is on loan to complete the summer when they can push their target.
This season has shown that he needs more. It was rumored in the summer that they would leave themselves with one less striker and that was the result of Sterling's late loan move.
The fact that Sterling doesn't seem to be considered for a few minutes now, despite the team's desperate need for a goal, suggests that the team may be two attacking players short of where they should be.
So January feels important for Arsenal and their ambitions in the second half of the season. It may not be easy to find what is needed, but they must deliver it well.
It seems like the last two seasons have been a bit of a rollercoaster for Arsenal and Manchester City.
Both seasons have been very difficult and both teams have pushed each other so hard, that they might have done something.
From Arsenal's point of view the effort they put in, both physically and mentally, to try to get past City was huge. And doing all that without crossing the line must have been very difficult.
It should also look to raise your hands up and come back, so maybe this has been difficult for them, especially because of the international competition which means that few can rest.
But it is what it is and they have to find a way to get back, otherwise this season could just go away and it would be very disappointing.
There is plenty of time to save things in the Premier League and Mikel Arteta's side are well placed in the Champions League and have the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup coming up this week.
So their season is almost over, although they are behind Liverpool and Chelsea at the moment.
Chelsea impressed and should be seen as contenders. They have a very destructive talent for the money they spent and the midfield is now looking very strong, which is not surprising when you have two players who cost £100 million.
They have the power right now and that can be a powerful thing, so they should be in the conversation about the topic.
There is plenty of fun at Arsenal for Myles Lewis-Skelly.
I think the rise of Ethan Nwaneri has taken Lewis-Skelly away a bit and that has allowed him to go under the radar, which would be good for a young player.
But if you look at it, it is Lewis-Skelly who has now been given starts in the Champions League and Premier League, not Nwaneri.
This says a lot about how Arsenal and Mikel Arteta view him. It's not just his talent that has gotten him to where he is, but his brain. He is seen as someone who can take everything he has and can play with maturity beyond his years.
This is what has impressed the staff at Arsenal. He appreciates how calm he is and how he thinks clearly. I think you can see it in the way he plays as well.
Obviously Arteta has seen something in him that makes him see him as a left back in the way he plays. It's still something new for Lewis-Skelly, who comes to school as a midfielder.
But the way he's done it shows what a good player he is and I think that's how we're going to continue to see him perform over the next few years.
