It is 2025 and only for the first time I saw the saw in 2004 – these are my honest thoughts

There are many films whose reputation and heritage far have exceeded the initial impact. These are films that affect so many others that they no longer feel new or exciting because they have been imitated to death, their initial brilliance has since become a formula for themselves. Such is the reputation of "Saw", one of the many examples of small, independent horror films that premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and to change the genre forever (see also: "The Witch Project" Legend's Producer Nightmare for Indian Film). Despite being a big fan of horror, I never watched any of the films "Saw" when I grew up in the 2000s because they were known for what they were, well, so called. "Torture Porn".

Recall that in the 00s the split horror films that highlighted the shows of cruel violence, mutilation, extremely crowded and often torture-films like "Saw "'s" Saw "is among the highest examples of this sub-genre. These films talked about the senseless violence of the decade after 9/11, reflecting what the audience had already seen on the news on a daily basis.

It is easy to see why "seen", such as directed by the Jameses James Van and written by Lee Vanel (who also starred in the film), was then a monumental hit. Not only did he play with that idea of meaningless, extreme violence, but it was also extremely cheap to do and not so subscribed by David Fincher's "Se7en", until the end of a turnaround and a fantastic team. With its nonlinear narrative, engaging central mystery and cool killings that shows Ruby Goldberg -style death contractions, bringing in mind the "final destination" franchise "," Saw "makes the winning combination.

However, given her torture porn reputation, I have stayed far from any of the films "Saw" - until now.

It is easy to see why the species has become a hit of an intersection

What is about "Saw" is that the 2004 original film feels and looks very different from the rest of the franchise, with a pretty nasty, nasty look that is clearly inspired by "Se7en" and is also dictated by the low budget of the film. That caring and the use of (mostly) single location do so, so the first "saw" has to rely much more on Vanel's script and Van's smart eye to make it feel like a little. Most of the story is about Adam (Vanel) and Lawrence (Kerry Elves), the latest victims of the puzzle killer, as they woke up in a dilapidated bath with orders to do as they can survive (while Lawrence is specifically told to kill Adam). Scattered throughout the room are several clues aimed at helping their survival.

If, like I would avoid watching this movie because of his reputation that it was torture porn (as well as a movie that Fincher believes he has hurt Se7en's legacy), then let me assure you: "Saw" is nowhere near as happy as it would believe its reputation (and extensions). Instead, it is a very effective horror-triller that relies more on mystery than for murder, with the killings themselves to service the story, rather than being the main attraction. Deaths are also the most implied and unfold off the screen, creating a powerful idea in your head without showing it. More than everything, "Saw" is an economically constructed film that creates a fully realized world that feels much larger than what we show, along with the death traps that are spectacular and precisely planned (based on what we see). No wonder the film hit Big in Sundance before taking over the community that loves the horror film.

The saw is still an effective horror movie two decades later

Obviously, looking at "Saw" in 2025, it is difficult not to see the contractions and plans of the serial killers of jigsaw as just a escape room with many bloody stakes, but it is also part of the party. This only makes Saw immediately highlighted by other movie killers, even to this day. Of course, the motives of the slogan are at best, but its methods make a unique experience. It offers its victims legitimately sound-although roughly sick-ways to survive, and the result is a movie that causes thinking that leaves you to wonder what to do in this situation. Would you really follow the instructions on the puzzle, collect different clues and survive?

Since the Saw franchise quickly lost the plot and became more to raise the barrier for Gore and funny traps, this is the case when returning to the beginning of the property serves only to emphasize how excellent and original its first installment is. With its low cost and non -existent expectations, Saw makes an attractive and quite gloomy horror film that makes up its lack of expensive visuals with suffocating tension, an exciting setting time bomb and brilliant script. Yes, the killings are quite violent and it is easy to see how they led to torture porn sub-genre, but again, they are not the focus of the film. Instead, it's a final turn at the last minute that makes it not only The best movie "Seen" But also a fantastic horror movie in general. Looking at the film's legacy and everything else, Vanel and Van continued to do in the years that intervened, the original "seen" remains Ellvedic and worthy first viewer two decades later.
