Star Trek's Robert Picardo had to make a doctor's doctor's change

New TV series "Star Trek: Academy Starfleet" Debe debuts in the early months of 2026, making the 15th TV series "Star Trek" to date (provided you count "short paths" and "very short paths" as separate entities). Wille has shared some common characters from the later seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and will be set in the 32th century, which has been centuries over most of the Star Trek plays. Due to its advanced point in the "Star Trek" time frame, there will be several opportunities to include hereditary characters from Trek's older shows ... Unless, of course, they include a character who is either very long -lived or pure immortal.

Fortunately, Star Trek contains a few of them, including the doctor (Robert Picardo) of Star Trek: Voyager. The doctor is a hologram that originally served as an urgent replacement for USS Voyager medical staff and had to remain activated for a long time, encouraging him with consciousness. At first, the doctor had to stay sent to Sickbay, where the holographic emitters were equipped, but In the end he was given an advanced mobile emitter that allowed him to go wherever he was satisfied. Since it is made of light and strong fields, it is essentially immortal. The doctor has already appeared on Star Trek: Prodigy, and will be the main character of the Starflit Academy, set 900 aei later.

Wille has had a few changes to the doctor since the last, of course, we saw it. For one, actor Robert Picardo is now 71, so the doctor will change his visual matrix to look more like a 71-year-old man (who is entirely appropriate for the 900-year-old entity). For another, his language will develop somewhere. That second point was a concern Picardo addressed a recent comic in San Diego, hand -covered with Cinemablend. He noted that the language of the 24th century would not sound the same as in 32 and that his character would be more hip until the 32th century colloquialism.

Doctor will speak by using more language of the 32th century

It is worth noting that the Starflit Academy will surround a group of cadets, most of them about 18 years old (or equivalent to their domestic planet). Indeed, one of the characters, Sam (Keriche Brooks), is also a hologram and was activated just weeks before the series events. They are all very young, the point. The doctor would not only update his language with the centuries that pass, but interact with young people from the 32th century, will also learn their slang. As Picardo said:

"The Language is different in the 32nd century than it was in the 24th century. We never said any bad Words in the 24th Century. Differences in the show that I have to get used to. Their respect. "

However, Picardo remembered that he was a return to the Academy's inheritance and that he should be aware of his association with the character's past. As such, he had to consciously serve as a model of roles for his young co-stars, reminding them that Star Trek is something the actor understands quite seriously. This was similar to the way his character must serve as a role model for the cadets he teaches, so that character and actor kind of disclosure.

As for this writing, Picardo is the only actor and the doctor's only character that connects the "Academy" with any of the "discovery". This is a really big responsibility for Picardo. But given how fertile the actor has always beenHe should not cause him too much trouble.
