The next contains heavy spoilers For "him", obviously.
His "His" to Justinatin Tiping is finally here, a nightmare view of the world of sports, it is a horror film that looks at cult obsession with sports in America, as well as the commodification and corporation of sports in the country. It is an exciting film that feels modest for the production company of Jordandan Chicken, MonkeyPaw productions, because the surface is a great fun with popcorn with a simple story that is both specific but still universal. And at the same time, that simple story reveals many layers as well as known to the topic, with many comments on biting.
In his review for /film, Chris Evangelist described the film as "wonderfully strange and perverse", but noticed special problems with the end, which he calls "strangely missing".
Indeed, the finale of "him" proved to be quite separating, especially in the way it handles the topics of the story and its comment. In our last moments, of course, we see the young Cameron quarterfinal "Kam" Kade Cade (Thirick Withers) killing his idol, the legendary KB Isaiah White (Marlon Vejans), in a bizarre ritual to win the desired position in the quarterfinals. But as he will sign a contract with the team owners, KAM has a heart change and goes to bloody rampage, killing all the wealthy executives and going from a field with his head holding high.
As a large part of the film, and like most Monkeypaw productionsThere is more than it fills the eye. If you have questions about the end or just want to read a different interpretation - or just make sure you are not crazy and there are more people there with the same thoughts - then this is the explanor for you. Let's dive in the end of "him".
What do you need to remember about the plot on it
Most of the "him" takes place over a week. KAM is invited by his football idol, Isaiah in his remote compound in the middle of the training desert, so Isaiah can assess whether Kam can replace him as a defender of San Antonio rescuers. Prior to this, Kam damaged his promising football career when he was hit by a hammer by the striker after one night, suffering from hallucinations associated with a concussion that make him insecure about what is real and what is not.
During the workout, KAM is considering athletes in hell, to be the best, to be "him". From previous entertainment, socializing, friendship, good food, to brutal training regimes, to bizarre injections of mysterious drugs - and in this particularly strange case, Isaiah's literal blood is transfused in camera. Things continue to take place, as Kam and Isaiah's mentor's attitude is getting worse and becoming more than the situation with the lions, with Isaiah several times talking about how little choice she has in the search for greatness and how they all just follow the suggestions. He also talks about how you have to completely download your idol to overcome them - as you literally take them, killing and consuming them.
What happens at the end of it?
At the end of the film, Kam is told Isaiah that he must fight to make his dream come true, and if he wants to get as good as his idol, he must take that place from him - literally. It turns out, there is a long history of painful rituals in the quarterfinals that fight and kill their predecessors to take their role. After a bloody fight, KAM appears a winner after blurring Isaiah to death with a football helmet - something they wouldn't see in others The so -called best football movies.
Then, Kam exits the complex and enters a football field where he is greeted by his agent, Isaiah's wife, the team's owner and the full marching band, all dressed in cult clothes, and some even wear pig skin masks. This is that, the moment he was waiting for Kam, they would sign him in the team.
But there are more. The owner reveals that they have been preparing CAM for a long time. Kam's own father worked with the owner and coaches of the team to nurture his son to become a quarter when he grew up. The attack that has almost killed KAM, the isolation that made him desperate enough to accept the bizarre training camp with Isaiah, is all part of the plan.
Anger, Kam rejects all this stupidity and goes to a very bloody killing, grabbing the same hammer that he attacked at the beginning of the film and killed every CEO of the field, before removing his head high and covered with blood ... As a flying aircraft with red/white/blue smoke.
The cult of sports
Much of the "him" deals with quasi-religious treatment of sports in America, especially football. How families have nurtured their children for a football career since birth, devoting them, sacrificing them to the altar of their favorite team, dictating their entire life for that unique goal. These athletes are essentially the gods of many people, but at the same time they have a little of their own agency, whether it is because of the pressure of fame and expectations of dedicated fans, or just the teams themselves and their wealthy owners who can dictate everything they can and cannot do and cannot do, and do not.
The original script for "him", then titled "Goat", ended only with characters that would later become Isaiah and Kam talk, and Isaiah revealed a ritual of a contract that made him impermeable to an injury that allowed him to be a goat. Kam, though reluctantly at the beginning, eventually agrees and makes the ritual himself, becoming a starfish defender, while Isaiah will finally live a life surrounded by friends, family and unwanted food, he stopped eating years before.
It is a different end to a movie that is more about the pressures of greatness, but "He" goes further. To explicitly get rid of Isaiah just before the grand final and change the goals of billionaire and other executives, the film specifically talks about the trend of players struggling to get more agencies, to be able to determine not only playing on the field, but also how they lead their lives. If he signs the contract, KAM will become a cat in the machine, the one that can be easily replaced, a player in an infinite cycle without escape. It is therefore important that the film changes the tone compared to the original script and has the KAM to take control of its own legacy and kills all as it rejects that cycle. He has an agency, he has a choice that Isaiah believes he did not exist.
"Him" is now in cinemas.
