But it is on the loan of the two recognized performers we succumb to this fantasy as much effort as they are. The early meeting-sale-back on the side of the highway while subtly avoids the police is a heck of an introduction, but it is the subsequent scene like Forrest and a gem sitting for their first real "date" in coffee sets as one of the most memorable moments of the film. Even she can say that the strange, amazing man hides something big for what he actually does for a living. But what follows is a gentle flirting that opposes that of a very real Roma-Com, full of reddish paths and a vigilant look of two icons that were there and did.

By the end, Forrest must make a fateful choice between the gem and the life that he is always known. The final sequence is played with equal parts of wit and grace. But it is Robert Redford's trembling eye that makes the final title card as an essential summary of one's own life and career:
