During the early seasons of Game of Thrones, fans were filled with hope - not only for the show, but also for the books they were based. The fifth book in the "Dragons Dance" series was published just weeks after the end of season 1, and author George RD Martin seemed confident that he would be able to finish the other books before the show surpassed it. We were all cute summer kids then, the poor Martin himself included.

Since the fifth book just came out, book fans during 2011-2014 were not as angry as they are now. Why did such a talented screenwriter stopped with a screenwriter?

But as the hardcore fans know "Song of Ice and Fire", this was not entirely true. In 2018, Martin will release "Fire & Blood", which told the story of the first 150 years or more of Targaryans' rule in Westeros. Although this book is now well -loved among the fans, at the time many thought it was grabbing money. Angry fans were wondering why Martin, who claimed to be hard at work, writing "Winds of Winter", instead, wrote a 600+ pages Westeros History Book. The other part of the explanation is that Hotd moved a little far away from the Martin book to fully participate in it.

From the first episode, Hotd enjoyed greater freedom than "got" in terms of changing the source of the material. The show turned Alicente and ran into childhood friends, forcing the King Vissaris to be a far less joyful character and gave Alikent a whole bow in season 2 that was not so hinted at the book. While Martin supports some of these changes (mainly those involving hersis), for the most part, these are no more Martin characters we see on the screen.

After the last season, Martin controversially wrote a blog - criticizing a significant change in the show made in the premiere of season 2. Although Martin's criticisms were reasonable and measured by internet standards, they were still surprising that they came from a man who would keep his criticism of himself during Many suspicious "Goth" Season 8 choices. Martin's and Hotd's Hotd, Ryan Conada, clearly sees no eye to look like "Fire and Blood" adaptation, so it makes sense that Martin would not want to write an episode for the play (or that Conada would not ask).
