In the discussion of his inspirations for his last game, the director revealed that "Star Trek: First Contact" in 1996 was influenced. This is because it is, from a certain point of view, a movie about the horror of the body. As Shanks explained:

"I was thinking of one of my favorite films of all time as a kid - and I probably have to stop talking about this, because it's not very interesting - it was" Star Trek: First Contact ", directed by Athonatan Freks. I love that movie. I rethinked him recently, and I was like, "Oh, this is a movie about a horror to the body." Maybe it's so long that it is in my head. So yes, thanks to Freyks-Man for the inspiration. "

Star Trek: The first contact is an unexpected inspiration for complete horror

For those who may not be familiar, "Star Trek: First contact" sees the crew of companies fighting Borg under the guidance of Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). They eventually follow the aliens back in the 21st century to prevent them from spoiling the earth's timeframe and preventing human contact with Alient Life. They must fight the dreaded queen Borg before she assimilates all humanity.

Borg is one of the biggest classic villains Star Trek. They are also one of the more frightening, given that the whole point is literal assimilation, from which the body enters the horror of it all. Although first is an absolutely scientific film, anyone who has seen "first contact" can probably see where the Shanks comes from the comparison. Alice Kriz is incredibly threatening as Queen Borg, and her interactions with Picard are really working on horror.

There is a good reason why "The First Contact" has been named Stewart's favorite film "Star Trek". The franchise has been advancing on television for decades, but films have always been a hit and Miss proposal. This was an absolutely one of the hits, and at one time it was kind. And it turns out that this special hit, years later, helped inspire one of the most famous horror films in 2025. Maybe the Hanks should reconsider its position so that this is not an interesting anecdote.

"Together" is now in cinemas.
