Very few of Terry Giliam's films have been produced without some sort of serious production problem. Illiam seems to be cursed, with his studio victims, poor recording conditions or the health of his actors. The saga of his "Brazil" is well known to the cinema, and his recent "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" had to be done twice after the first version of the film collapsed. In 2009, Illiliam has published "Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", A melancholic nightmare for the mystical closet traveling around owned by the title doctor (Christopher Plummer). Inside the closet is a mystical pocket dimension where surreal dreams are manifested. Dr. Parnassus runs a theater troupe and is immortal after being deceived by Satan (Tom Waits). His company comes with handsome young Tony (Heath Ledger), who can offer salvation. At the very least, Tony offers to strengthen the troupe's act and is beautiful enough to charm rich Dovgers to invest in the show.

Ledger who appeared in the "Grimm Brothers" at Illiliam-tragically died while Doctor Parnassus was still in production, however, with many scenes left unnecessary. Illiam and his screenwriter, Charles McCain, quickly reconstructed the film to include a new element of fantasy, which opposed Ledger's absence coverage. When people enter the magical imaginary, they turn their powers into newer versions of themselves.
