The epic film about Christian Bale's war has almost starred Matt Damon instead

Werner Herzog's film "Rescue Zora" (which hit American theaters in the summer of 2007) was a semi-fixed retelling of his own documentary in 1997 "Little Dieter should fly". The documentary was followed by Dieter Dengler, a German-American pilot whose plane was shot down during the Vietnam war, leading to its closure and torture at the jungle power camp. Herzog took Dengler back to Laos and Thailand to revive his experiences there. "Rescue Dawn" is expanding its re -creation into a full script drama. Dengler played by Christian Bale, giving an intense and wonderful performance. Meanwhile, Steve Zan and EreereMi Davis Co-Starvaza as US troops who were trapped along with Dieter.

Herzog, always a sticker for authenticity, returned to Thailand to shoot at the locations where Dengler was lost and organized his escape. Namely, "Rescue Dawn" marked the first time Herzog once used CGI in film because he used it to animate Dengler's initial crash. Bale, for his part, has celebrated a huge weight for his role, as Dengler is starved in the jungle for most of the film's duration. (Actor Also almost landed in Taiwanese prison While working on the film.) In a move that helped his actor, Herzog smartly shot "Rescue Dawn" in reverse chronological order, allowing his actors to regain weight slowly during filming. He also obviously joined Bale in eating spells As the latter entered the character to prove that it could be done.

In a vintage interview (one who, unfortunately, is now ingested from the Internet), Herzog said he threw Bale because he was the best of his generation. Bale is really great in the film, and received a lot of praise from critics, though he was not always witty to play Dengler. Indeed, it seems that Herzog has ever asked Matt Damon to play the role, clearly looking for a beautiful movie starvet.

Matt Damon has spent a chance to work with Werner Herzog

Speaking at a press conference to promote the film "Adjustment Bureau" in 2011 (as attended by Cinemablend), Damon revealed that he had talked with Herzog about him starring in "Rescue Dawn" ... and stupid refused it. As he pointed out during the event, he was offered parts in very large and minor projects over the years and had to balance what he wanted to do with how much the role pays or her difficulty. In the case of "Rescue Dawn", he spent the film in favor of the one who thought it would be much more fun to do. In his own words:

"(T) Here's the movie Werner Herzog called 'Rescue dawn ' It was done by Christian Bale, and Werner and I talked about it - this was eight years ago - for me I probably can play that role. I was really thinking hard, and instead I met the Farelli brothers. I remember talking to my mother, and my mom said, "You don't always have to get into the jungle and lose a bunch of weight, it's allowed to have fun." And I made the movie "Farelli Brothers", and that was where I met my wife. Four children later, it was a pretty fateful decision. "

At stake, the movie "Farelli Brothers" was "stuck for you", comedy in 2003 for a pair of associated twins played by Damon and Greg Kinear. "Stuck on You" recorded in Los Angeles and Miami and was far less physically exhausting than "Rescue Dawn" (though Damon and Kinear had to be physically attached to their scenes). Damon was in Miami when he met Luciana Bozan Barroso, his future wife. The couple married in 2005 and had three children together. The fourth is the stepmother of Damon, whom he sees as his own. Shooting in Miami and getting to know your wife certainly looks like more fun than losing 50kg and shooting at a remote jungle, even if it is with Werner Herzog.

Damon also refused Avatar

Namely, Damon was once offered a plum contract in 2006 which similarly refused. It seems that Jameseims Cameron approached him to play the role of Akeejk Suli in Its forthcoming effects-heavy extravagance "Avatar". Damon would not only receive a huge salary, but he would also get 10% of the shares in the film's profits. It seems, however, he was too busy with other projects and did not want to withdraw. In particular, he was focused on making the film Paul Greengrass "Green Zone. As Damon said, something sarcastic:

"It is clear to me, passing the chance to be in 'Avatar ' In order to make 'Green zone ' was one of those (fateful) moments. Because 'Avatar ' did not do very well ... DVD of 'Green zone ' It will only go huge. "

Of course, Damon had a little joke. The "Green Zone" barely broke evenly, while Avatar became the highest film with the highest level of all time. A few years later, in Interview of 2023 with Chris WallaceDamon also admitted that he was dedicated to Jason Bourne films at the time and did not want to leave Bourne Ultimatum, which was in the middle of production.

Bale and Damon will eventually end up working together on the Jamesei Mangold Father's Former Ferrari's father. The two actors played well with each other, although one can see that everyone carries a very different type of energy on the screen. After all, Bale was a better choice for a "rescue dawn". And while "stuck on you" is hard to remember as a classic, Damon at least met his wife in a set. Everything works for a reason.
