There was a lot of hint and building around the Asimov concept of mentality in season 3 of the Apple TV+Foundation series. The slow detection of the second basis And his first speaker, premier Palver (Troy Cosor) showed a brand new, target side of Asimov's expanded universe. The mental community of Ignus is now fully entered the story and we know the important characters included. But their abilities? These are just beginning to appear in light, and one event in episode 4 pushes the power that bends on telepaths at new levels.

When Brother Zora (Cassian Biloton) and Gal Dornik (Lou Lobel) are racing outside the tunnels of the Imperial Capter Planet of the Trans, they are prosecuted. To avoid catching, they duck on a side street and see how to see them - though they are right for a regular look. Gal continues to tell Brother Zora that their enemies cannot see them and that they will forget that they were once even there. When asked how she did, Gaal says: "Muzla is not the only one with abilities. We can do a lot of things."

Wait, what happened? Is this the trick of Edice's mind, like when Qui-Gon Jinn Dupes Watto, or older Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Stormtrooper that it requires different Duids? The short answer is: No. We are not talking about the "Starwells War"-ESK "force in the" Foundation ". Instead, we look at the power that comes purely inside - a cognitive intellect unlocked by nothing less than Seldon's Psychochistory Day.

The background to control the mental mind in Asimov's universe is at the same time incredibly convoluted and simple as it becomes. Let's deal with the former first. The complexities of mental abilities are described during the later books of the "Foundation" of Asimov, especially on the "second basis". In that book, telepathy is related to the development of psychochistory, mathematical understanding of social behavior by volume. This is a necessary predecessor to unlock the mind and, as Asimov said, makes it "possible to really develop psychology".

Since the second foundation develops psychochistory, its members begin to understand and open their minds. This starts with the possibility of communication without talking. In the book, Asimov explains:

"The speech, initially, was the device with which man learned, imperfect, to convey the thoughts and emotions of his mind (...), he developed a method of communication-but the one who in his clumsy and fatty fever inadequacy degenerated the whole delicacy of mind in rough and guttable signaling."

As Asimov spends a huge time (much more than what is quoted above) trying to describe this release from Gutterl's speech, he wraps and puts a nice bow on things saying:

"Because, however, it is inherently impossible in a speech -based society to point out the method of communicating the second founders among themselves, all the work will be ignored."

There's your explanation "just as it gets". The mentality uses math to unlock the mind through psychology - it's all so complicated, we don't have to understand it. What we know is that this opens up a completely new aspect and dimension of the story of the "Foundation" - one that involves control of others to achieve specific outcomes.

Along with telepathic communication, mentality can actively manipulate the thoughts and feelings of others. The most obvious example of this is Mule, although Asimov points out that his abilities are those of the mutant and, thus difficult to compare with the naturally developed mental abilities of the second founders.

Speaking strictly about the capabilities of Gaal Dornik and Company, members of the second foundation are able to reach the heads of others around them (and even from a distance) and to mix and adapt things to their desire. Because their shadow group works under the strict ethical and moral standards of Seldon's plan, they have boundaries, most of which turn around what they do to change the mind as needed to produce an outcome. At one point, an important second founder is literally attacked on the streets and does everything he can to avoid saturating or controlling his striker's mind, even to his own damage, because it would break the second fund's protocol.

In the show, these restrictions are clearly looser - probably because it is more fun to make the second Tranor founders look like Eddie runs through the coruscant. But the connection is really different. One includes strength. The other is simply a group of mentally released persons who do their best to maintain the course of course because they lead humanity to its best shot in the flourishing future. Expect to see much greater control of the mind in the episodes and seasons to come.
