In the episode "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" "Space Adventure Hour", Lieutenant Colonel Laan Nonien-Sing (Kristina Chong) is required to try out a whole new USS Enterprise Technology: Holodek. As can tell you Trekkies, Holodek is a dedicated room that can create artificial, completely interactive environments, complete with sophisticated NPCs, using holographic emitters, replicating technology and carefully calibrated fields of force. The technology was first introduced, in rudimentary form, in an episode of "Star Trek: The Animated Series" in 1974, although the concept would not be codified until the first episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987. It was when the term "Holodek" was first used.

Holodek has become a source of many, many episodes of "Old Trek: The next generation" afterwards. Many of the concepts of Holodek were created by Trek Tracy's late writer Torme. Since it can create simulated environments, the show can have a much more visual variety; Becoming bored looking at the same eight sets of arswoles from Sunday after Sunday. Now the characters could play as film detectives in the 1930s, the SPEMS Bond Sort, or scientific heroes since the 1950s. They could go to the river or, in the case of Warf, to fight the villains of the cartoon "He-man". Holodek made the whole franchise "Star Trek" more.

The "Space Adventure Hour" finally allows "Strange New Worlds", already visually diverse show, to have another way out for its research on the genre. Of course, "strange new worlds" takes place in front of the original Star Trek series and a century before the "next generation", so some readers may already cry. Know that "strange new worlds" covers this explaining that Holodek's technology is still in its design stage and that, in the present form, it requires more power than usually generates Stars'. Holodecks are still not functioning, explaining why they would not be a standard Starspaist issue for another century.

Of course, if there is an episode of Holodek from "Strange New Worlds", it will have to homage to "next generation" and Tracey Torme.

As mentioned, "Space Adventure Hours" sees that Lieutenant Colonel Noonien-Sing is testing Holodek, just to explore his capabilities and restrictions. She asks that Scotti (Martin Quinn) programs Holodek to recreate one of her favorite detective novels, a book set in the 1960s. Her story of a detective in the 1960s includes, in a bizarre meta-narrative turnaround, machinations and creators of many "Star Trek" TV series called "The Last Border". Scotty still does not know how to create a random NPC, so he uses the resemblance of the company's crew to serve as Laan co-stars. As such, she communicates with holograms that look just like her co -workers, but with modified hairstyles, suits and personalities.

The fact that Laan recreates a detective story will immediately remind Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his favorite Holodek's "Next Generation". Picard was a very fondicist at the 1930s detective Called Dixon HillBased on the (invented) series of books that he read in youth. Picard had to wear Fedora and a ditch coat, use a Tommy gun and shout like "Doll is a witty"! Dixon Hill first appeared in the episode of Torme, "The Great Goodbye" (January 11, 1988), and some of their own collaborators had to dress in costumes appropriate to the era. Dixon Hill even appeared in the feature film "Star Trek: First Contact" in 1996, "Although only briefly.

Both the "Space Adventure Hour" and "The Great Goodbye", the technological mistake, causes the characters to become trapped in Holodek, forcing them to play the fictional drama to escape. On the inside, the killing is far away. Back to the company, there is a massive engine failure (or any other technical problem).

Detectives are common fantasies for Holodek, as seen in the episode "Elementary, Dear Data" (December 5, 1988). In that episode, the data (Brent Spinner) is in the stories of Sherlock Holmes for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the mysteries in playing with Georgi (Levar Burton) who serve Dr. Watson. As with all the episodes of Holodek, however, a crisis arose. It seems that Ordordi accidentally creates a self-conscious hologram of Dr. Moriarti (Daniel Davis) to face the data. "Space Adventure Hour" certainly causes it.

But then, it's also just the latest in the long line of strange Star Trek stories in the center of Holodek. The new episode "Strange New Worlds" also evokes "Our man Bashir" (22.11.1995), an episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in which Dr -Bashir (Alexander Sidig) Play-acts like a JameSeim Bond spy, something he wants to share with his boyfriend-boy Garak (Andrew Robinson). Thanks to the remaining part of the transporter, his colleagues DS9 are housed in the Holodek computer core, keeping their consciousness. They begin to appear in the adventure in Bashir 007, and he must play together, so as not to be erased.

What, of course, also plays in the "Space Adventure Hour", as this episode also links Holodek to the transporter systems to create realistic avatars of the high staff of the ship. Although holodexes are fantastic technology, much of the technology remains strangely consistent throughout the franchise. (Well, just as consistent as a hyper -realistic video game.)

They may be nonsense, those episodes of Holodek, but they provide fun to the usual stable life of the Star Trek officer and, as mentioned, the visual variety they carry in the Star Trek show is vital to keeping the shows.
