Everyone wants a pleasant mystery. There is nothing like bending with a warm blanket and a mystery show that wraps the things of each episode, following an unusual mystery-raised one or another. Elsbet is praised by critics that it is a fun procedural that uses the inverted format of the story of the detective best known from the classic Columbus series. Indeed, in an interview for DiversityCo-creators and writers of the series Michelle and Robert King have confirmed that Columbus is a massive inspiration behind the show's creation.

Michelle King explained that the idea for the show came when she and Robert King were walking their old favorite TV shows while stuck together during Kovid-19 2020:

"We watched a lot of comfort TV, and comfort felt like" Columbus "and that cozy mystery than ... 10-hour movie, which is what some of these streaming shows pretend to be."
