This is a great book by Matt Tenney that I have read recently. The title and the message of the book reminds Thich Nhat Hanh's classic The miracle of mindfulness. Magic or miracles happen when you spend more time paying 100% attention to your current work. This makes you spend less time worrying about the future, or more time in the painful moments of the past, and now. This is something I've been working on for a while, but it's certainly difficult to do regularly.
This book gave me motivation to work harder. At first, Matt discovered an amazing story. He made a mistake in the trial, which put him in a very painful place (he tried to commit a crime and ended up in jail). A few years later, he noticed that he would feel much better if he was just brushing his teeth while doing his best, rather than reflecting on how serious his situation was. The same thing happens when walking or doing other routines. He decided to keep trying to do this, fundamentally restructured the almost long-term retreat. He has been serving others all his life since and trying to convey that message.
So, can those of us who live daily life not be as bad as they go to jail? Worth a try!
