However, the reason why it remained hidden for decades is still more fascinating than the photo itself.

Backstage on Bowie's glass spider 1987 at Wembley Stadium, calm, and yet captured a moment.

Photographer Denis O'Regan filmed a photograph that remained unprecedented for almost four decades. Snapshot showed Princess Diana smiling next to Bowie. It was a rare, honest picture of the two most recognizable figures in the world, trapped just before the musician took over the stage.

O'Regan, who worked with Bowie during the tour, was with his father and his brother in the crowd when he heard that he was a very special guest on his way.

"I worked with David at the Spider's glass concert", recalled in a recent interview with Daily mail. "I helped my father and brother to find a good place to watch when I was told Diana was coming back."

Harvey Goldsmith's music promoter edited a meeting, introducing late Princess Wales on the music legend. When O'Regan asked if he could take a photo, Goldsmith simply said he was asking Diana himself.
