The Netherlands, a thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Matthew McFadien, premiered for the first time in the southwestern film festival in early March. The biggest thing that works against the Netherlands is the fact that, at least outside the SXSW festival, at least not released in theaters. It is shameful because this is a surprisingly funny movie. And, even when it's not funny, it still throws juicy twists and turns to you, designed to get a sound reaction to the audience. Part of why I enjoyed the movie so much because I watched it with a crowd full of people waiting for more than an hour just to get in, laughing at every joke and weeping every plot.
It is difficult to overcome how much the better some movies can look when audiences treat it as an event, rather than something that can accidentally include them in their living room. "Glass onion", for example, seemed to have received stronger admission to the audience during that A short window where you played in cinema in late 2022. When it was eventually released on Netflix, the audience seemed less impressed, more or less ready to engage in the work at a deeper level. I don't think the Netherlands would ever be a huge critical/success of the audience in cinemas, but there is a good chance of having a lot more buzz than it is now.
