The goal of having Borg at Star Trek: Voyager, however, was a more mercenary than just adding a new character to the show. Voyager's estimates were marked at the end of their third season, and the show decided to score one of the less popular characters on the show and replace them with Borg. It was executive producer Rick Berman who said he was, in his words, "Borg Baby". Cas, played by Ennenifer Lien, was removed from "Voyager", And seven of the nine came in. Hope was that the actress with a good look at the magazine would attract a wider audience. The plot worked.

It also helped that seven of the nine were an interesting character. She was a little robotic, offering a foreign perspective on events. She developed interesting relationships with Captain Ewenevey and Doctor (Robert Picardo). Braga revealed how important it is that seven remain as mechanically as possible and that her Borg is not the front and center of all time. Giving the character of a human name, according to him, undermine that effort. As he said:

"We fought for a long time. Initially, we gave a human name. She would be named Pera, or Anika, or something. We wrote the first few scripts with a human name. And it wasn't a little later we thought:" She shouldn't have a human name .

That has the perfect dramatic sense.

Seven out of nine would remain on Star Trek: Voyager until the end of the series, which came out of the air in 2001. Ryan will repeat his role in Star Trek: Picard in 2020, appearing in all three seasons of that show.
