Just like Netflix, Prime Video's most watched charts can be a bumpy affair. For everyone quickly forgotten Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin Action comedy that hits the prime minister's listthere is John Candy's favorite movie Reminding us all how it should be done. Now, another solid film proves that streaming audiences can demand more than a generic vault, as Blink Twice makes an impressive run at video-chart premieres.
Directed by Zoe Kravitz, who also co-wrote the script with ET Feigenbaum ("High Fidelity"), Blink Twice was one of the biggest surprises of 2024establishing Kravitz as not only a capable director, but a director to watch moving forward. The film stars Naomi Aki as cocktail waitress Frida, who, along with her friend Ess (Alia Shawkat), accepts an invitation to the private island of tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum). However, once on the island, Frida slowly begins to suspect that all is not quite as it seems in this easygoing paradise. Things go from tense and awkward to downright twisted, as Frida discovers the true intentions of her host and his entourage of powerless Yuppie Bros. The final act of the film builds to an intense mind-f*** of belittling, so that from The end of Blink Twice You're left breathless as the vengeful final girls of Kravitz's inspired psychological thriller.
Blink Twice was already a modest success at the box office, but now it's proving to be just as (if not more) successful on streaming, with the film engaging a truly global audience and taking over video premieres.
