The country singer's a cappella rendition of his 1992 hit "Achy Breaky Heart" drew mixed reactions, prompting him to address the criticism by sharing a clip of the performance on Instagram.

On January 22, Trace shared an emotional open letter to Billy Ray Cyrus on Instagram.

Trace—adopted by Billy Ray in 1993 after his marriage to his now ex-wife Tish Cyrus—he described his complicated feelings for his father, reflecting on the deep admiration he had for him as a child.

"From my earliest memories, I have been obsessed with you," Trace wrote. "The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Unfortunately, the man I so desperately wanted to be is exactly what I barely recognize now.”

Along with a throwback photo of the two performing on stage, Trace expressed concern for his father's well-being. “It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you,” he continued. "You may be mad at me for posting this, but at this point I really could care less."

Trace's candid post also highlighted concerns shared by his siblings, including Brandi Cyrus, Miley Cyrusand Noah Cyrus. "Me and the girls genuinely cared for you for years, but you pushed us all away," Trace wrote. “Noah desperately wanted you to be a part of her life and you weren't even there for her. That's your girl. She deserves better. Yet somehow, just like me, she still adores you.”

Billy Ray also shares a son Christopher Cody Cyrus with an ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckeyand son Bryson Cyrus, with Tish.

Trace went on to address the family's collective hope that Billy Ray will be restored to health and happiness. "We all hold on to the memory of the man we once knew and hope for the day he returns," he added. "You're not healthy, Dad, and everyone notices."

Trace's letter also included a personal note about his own trip.

"As I write this with tears in my eyes, I hope you understand that this message comes only from a place of love and fear that the world may lose you too soon," he said. "We haven't spoken in a while, but I've been clean of alcohol for over a year and a half. Guess what? I feel amazing. I don't know exactly what you're struggling with, but I think I have a pretty good idea, and I'd love to help you if you'd open up and get help.”

Trace closed his heartfelt post with the promise: “You know how to reach me. Until that day comes, I will pray for you.”

During his performance of "Achy Breaky Heart" at President Donald Trump's Inaugural Liberty Ball, Billy Ray Cyrus encountered a series of technical difficulties, including problems with his guitar and microphone, which forced the country singer to improvise, eventually leading him to perform the song a cappella. At one point, he removed the mic from its stand and started speaking the lines instead of singing them, showing his determination to get through.

“Check? Is anyone awake?” Billy Ray joked with the audience during the performance. “Do you want me to sing more or just get off the stage?” he continued, adding a witty nod to the event's host: “In life, when you have technical difficulties, you just have to keep going, or as President Trump would say, 'You have to fight.'”

“I would not pass up the honor of playing this event regardless of whether my microphone, guitar or monitors are working or not. I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me,” he said. “I had a ball last night at the Liberty Ball, and I've learned over the years that when a producer says, 'You're on,' you're going to entertain people even if the equipment goes to hell. I was there for the people and we had fun. It's called rock and roll!”
