For an opening scene that looks pretty flawless, Ben Stiller revealed that the second season of "Severance" is the result of many months of work.

After ending the first season on a grand scale, the drama series returned after almost three years with a two-minute sequence that seems to take place in one frame. However, the reality was anything but smooth.

Many fans have been wondering where the second season will begin, and it started with footage Adam Scott's character Mark races through the halls of Lumon. Although it appears to have been filmed for a few minutes, the reality was that they shot it in several different parts over several months and then stitched it all together.

"It was actually shot in a bunch of different parts," Stiller said CinemaBlend after the premiere of the show. “I think it was 10 different parts, and each part usually had different equipment to do it for whatever piece we needed. But it was actually shot over the course of probably five or six months, when we would have different parts of the set that were ready."

With three years to speculate, fans had three years to try to figure out how the show would return. However, none of them could have predicted that the season would begin with Mark running up and down the halls.

Stiller said the decision "all came from this idea, really, that when Adam and I were talking about the season opener, that, you know, this push that Mark was going to have to run and figure out what was going on based on this news he had just heard .”

The scene was technically difficult to shoot, as the "Night at the Museum" star explained how they used a "screw arm" to capture his movements. He said the swinging arm was actually "very dangerous" and "a bit scary" for all the cast and crew involved.

"But it was a really fun puzzle that all of our department heads worked on," he continued. "And, you know, it was one of those things that took a long time to actually finish, and when we got to the end, we were like, 'We've finished this shot.' I think we even had a shooting party.”

Although Stiller was focused on the safety of using the crowbar to shoot the scenes, actor Adam Scott was concerned about maintaining his stamina during all those months. He joked that he used a lot of Gatorade to run for that long, even though the scenes were shot weeks to months apart.

"Like Ben said, it took five or six months to get through," he recalled CinemaBlend. "And every time I thought we were done with the opening running sequence, someone would say, 'Okay, so for next week, what's your favorite color of Gatorade?' (I'd) be like, 'Oh my God, are there any more runs?' It's like, 'Yeah, there's another part.'"

He admitted he was "exhausted" when he finally finished shooting all his running scenes, but looking back, he thinks the process was "super fun."

In an interview with Entertainment Weeklycreator, writer, and executive producer Dan Erickson admitted to reading "weird" fan theories popping up on Reddit. However, he found that no one had managed to get everything right… at least not yet.

"I love them all and some of them are goofy, but the show is wacky, so it makes sense," he said. "I wouldn't say I've seen anyone be completely right."

“We're trying to lay the seed for where it ends up going, and I think people are noticing. "They said this in Episode 2, so I bet it's going to pay off this way,' and sometimes it kind of matches what we're doing," he continued. "But I don't think I've seen anything where I've said, 'Oh God, they got it. It's time for me to leave the country and change my name.'"

Season 2 of "Severance" premiered Friday, January 17, on Apple TV+.
