The 'RHOBH' star says she was overwhelmed by depression
Richards told The Hollywood Reporter that depression played a role in her decision to stop filming "RHOBH." She didn't shoot for a week after the Spanish Day outbreak and explained that she was tired of fighting with other ladies.
"I regretted how I handled it, but I didn't leave. I'm not someone who gets depressed," she said. "I've had anxiety all my life, but never depression. I really felt like I was struggling with depression, and I expressed that. And I just felt like I couldn't go into scripts all the time and everyone was attacking me."

The reality star almost didn't return for season 14

Richards also revealed that she almost didn't return for season 14 due to her personal life. The former "Little House on the Prairie" actress is the only original actress still on "RHOBH."
The OG said her personal life almost prevented her from signing up for the current season, but she decided the show would help keep her busy while she adjusted to her new life.
"It was absolutely the closest I've ever been to not coming back to the show," Richards revealed. "The show is under a lot of pressure, and I had so much going on in my personal life that was difficult and painful. I thought, 'I don't know how I can get through a season of dealing with this.' And we have a lot of fun on the show, and I didn't even know if I had it in me."
"I remember coming home when Mau first moved out and Alexia had just moved out. It was like, 'Oh my God, my house is so quiet.' I'm not used to that," she continued. "It was one of those days when nobody was there. This is going to be weird having this new life with less people at home, I thought. And, on top of that, wanting to be busy and busy."

Richards said the production respected her decision to stop filming

Richards said Bravo respected her decision to take a break from filming after she stormed out of the spa at St. John's House.
"I said, 'I just can't do this, I can't shoot right now,' and the production respected that," Richards revealed. "They know I've never done that. In all these years, I've never called in sick or failed to show up for anything; I've never canceled a shoot. So they said, 'Take this time, I think you need it, and we'll meet again meet when you feel better.' I definitely felt the support of the network and the production, so I used that time until I felt strong again and gathered my thoughts about what I wanted to do."
The reality TV star added that she seemed to take "a lot" of time off because she "never left".
"I actually don't remember now from seven months ago, but not more than a week," she said of her hiatus. "We do an episode a week. If I wanted to leave, I had to leave. And if I had it in me to stay, I had to honor what I signed up for. So I figured that out. Considering, also, unfortunately , the people pleaser didn't (completely) go away with it!”
