"You know, when you're an actress in your first lead role in a big studio movie, you have to feel comfortable with the other person," Stiles said. "And he was very generous in that way."
Stills and Ledger play high school love interests in the film, which acted Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cameron James), Gabriel Union (chastity), Allison Janney (Mrs Berkey), David Krumholtz (Michael Ekman), Larissa Olenik (Bianca Stratford), Andrew Keegan (Joey Donner) and Susan May Pratt (Mandela).
Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose in 2008 at the age of 28. A toxicology report released at the time found that Ledger died of "acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine."
Recalling filming with Ledger, Stills said that her character Kat Strafford's paintball date with Heath's Patrick Verona was "really, really fun". Stiles also noted that the scene of Cat reading her poem aloud to the class caused an emotional reaction.

"The scene where I read the poem, I didn't expect to start crying or tear up or choke up, whatever," Stiles recalls. “But it happened because the movie was coming to an end, the production was coming to an end. And I think I was very inspired by the whole experience."

"I have so many great memories of that movie that are fading because it's been 20 years," Stiles said. "But it was a special time that we were all very excited about."
