Williamson took to Instagram on Tuesday, January 7, to celebrate the start of filming on the long-awaited sequel, despite apparent restrictions on public comment. His post included a photo of a film plate commemorating "The First Day" and a caption expressing his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

"I shouldn't be posting about 'Scream' and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics forgive me," Williamson began. "But when you're having one of the best days of your life, it's really hard to keep it to yourself."

Williamson, who stepped into the director's chair after the controversy surrounding the film "Scream 7" and its stars Neve Campbell and Melissa Barrerahe described the first day of filming as "remarkable". He praised the cast and crew, saying they "brought their 'A' game and had my back every step of the way."
