Tom Holland has had a bit of a rough time outside of his Marvel exploits. In 2022 Holland announced that he will take a well-earned break which is likely to stand the actor in good stead given his career choices of late. Along with playing Spider-Man on the Walls, the British actor led a disappointing adaptation of the video game Uncharted and the bloated mess of a movie that was The Russo Brothers' Cherry. Then there was Doug Liman's Chaos Walking in which Holland was caught up in a decidedly dark and shockingly late attempt to cash in on YA dystopian madness. Even Apple TV, which has produced a slew of great streaming series in recent years, couldn't help Holland, whose The Crowded Room was met with negative reviews.

But when you're this generation's Spider-Man, it's going to take a lot more than a few dudes to end your career. Holland is now gearing up for a triumphant return that will see him front what are sure to be two of the biggest films of 2026. The Dutch "Spider-Man 4" will face an unexpected battle for the box office when he goes up against the actor's other biggest upcoming role in Christopher Nolan's next blockbuster. That should ensure 2026 becomes the summer of Tom Holland, as Nolan's retelling of a Greek epic It looks set to be the biggest cinematic event of the year, closely followed by Spidey's next outing.

Meanwhile, Holland seems to have a deep love for another blockbuster franchise. Although he has yet to make it into this particular saga, the saga itself is responsible for the actor's favorite film of all time.

Asked by Men's health what his favorite movie is, Tom Holland has revealed that it's James Cameron's box office sci-fi epic Avatar. With a 2.9 billion dollars box office, the 2009 film remains the highest-grossing film of all time, with Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home a close second with $1.9 billion. However, Holland seems more than happy to outdo Cameron's CGI-fest, telling Men's Health: "I'm not ashamed to say 'Avatar.'.""

Why would it be a shame to take it? Maybe because Avatar is relatively new? Or maybe Holland feels he should have some kind of independent artistic endeavor at the top of his list? In any case, there is no shame in having a personal favorite movie. Unfortunately, Holland didn't explain why Cameron's film remains his all-time favorite, although Avatar would have arrived when the actor was just 13, so it probably represented one of his formative film experiences.

Interestingly enough, Holland managed to surpass his favorite film at the domestic box office, with "No Way Home" passed "Avatar" as the third highest-grossing film in the United States after taking $814,866,759 to Cameron's $785,221,649.

James Cameron is currently preparing to present the creepy Na'vi fire clan in Avatar: Fire and Ashes. Set for a December 2025 release, the film will be followed by a fourth installment, and since Cameron has already shot both films, it seems unlikely that Tom Holland will be appearing on Pandora anytime soon - unless he makes a secret cameo. That's a shame in a way, considering the actor has been in a sort of recalibration mode following his non-Spidey career moves. Bolstering his Christopher Nolan and Spider-Man 4 projects with some Avatar action would certainly go a long way to prove the man can do a lot more than play the web-slinger.

That said, I'd rather see Holland try his hand at drama again. Just because "Cherry" and "The Crowded Room" failed doesn't mean he should give up, especially since his performance in stellar southern gothic "devil all the time" it was a decent showing from the Brit. What's more, while Avatar is impressive, there are arguably far more exciting projects that are on the true frontier of filmmaking and seeing Holland embrace some of the new generation of filmmakers would probably be a lot more exciting than seeing him treated to Navi.
