Singer and songwriter Paris Jackson is celebrating a milestone in his journey to sobriety.
The 26-year-old musician and model took to social media on Tuesday to mark five years drug and alcohol free. Widely regarded as “Michael Jackson's daughter,” Paris' admirable aim solidifies who she really is without needing to connect her to her famous family.

Paris Jackson is truly 'grateful' to be sober today
Posting on her personal Instagram, Jackson shared a montage of pictures and videos from her past, with a touching caption paying tribute to who she is today.
"Today marks 5 years clean and sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say I'm grateful would be a poor euphemism," she writes, "(because) gratitude barely scratches the surface. Because I'm sober I'm laughing today."
In the montage, which plays over Past Lives' "Don't Wake Me, Don't Dream," several clips show the young entertainer drinking and smoking with friends. At several points, Jackson appears to be crying as he continues his unhealthy spiral into substance abuse.

The visual then cuts to footage of Jackson holding various key chains and coins after recovering from addiction, signifying her progress in becoming and staying sober.

As the video continues, we see a much happier Jackson dancing with friends and spending time with her fiance, music producer Justin Long, all while taking on life with a sober and clear head.
In her own words, Jackson notes how grateful she is to experience life's natural highs—even when she's at a low point.
"I have to make music. I experienced the joy of loving my dogs and my cat," she explains.
“I feel heartbroken in all (my) glory. I have to grieve. I'm laughing. I'm going to the dance. I have confidence. I can feel the sun on my skin and it's warm," Jackson continues, adding, "I've found that life goes on whether I'm sober or not, but today I have to show up for it."

The starlet then ends her post by describing the reel - "a little snapshot of what was possible because of my sobriety".
"And my God," she confirms, "I can't believe I almost missed it all."

Paris Jackson chalked up her addiction to 'self-hatred' after years of sadness and grief
In a Rolling Stone in a 2017 interview, Jackson spoke boldly about the onset of her addiction to alcohol and drugs, which she says began at age 15. However, the pain that led to her addiction began much earlier – when she lost her superstar father at the age of 11.
"They always say, 'Time heals,'" Jackson told the music outlet, "but it really isn't. You just get used to it. I live life with an 'OK, I've lost the only thing that ever mattered to me' mentality.”
By the way, Paris's eldest brother, Prince Michael Jackson, noticed that his sister internally looks a lot like the "Heal the World" singer.
"The only thing that differs would be her age and gender," he told RS. “(She is like him) in all her strengths, but also in almost all her weaknesses. She is very passionate. She is very emotional to the point where she can let her emotions cloud her judgment.”
By age 15, Jackson, then clinically depressed and self-medicating with drugs and alcohol, attempted to end her life.
“It was just self-hatred, low self-esteem, thinking I couldn't do anything right, (and) not thinking I was worthy of life anymore,” she explained of her choice to swallow 20 Motrin pills and cut her wrists. .
Jackson was then hospitalized and then transferred to a residential treatment program after it was discovered that this was not her first attempt.

"(They had) a three-strikes rule," said the young woman. "It's only gone public once."
Paris plans to say 'I do' to music producer Justin Long
In much happier life news, Jackson recently revealed that she is engaged to fellow musician Justin Long after dating for two years.
Via a sweet Instagram post to celebrate Long's birthday in December, the bride-to-be shared several photos with Long, including one where he got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.
“Happy birthday my sweet blonde. Living with you these past few years has been an indescribable whirlwind,” she wrote, “and I couldn't have dreamed of someone more perfect for me to do it all with. Thank you for letting me be yours. I love you.”
Long is known for his work with 5 Seconds of Summer, Grace Potter and other musical artists – including Jackson herself on “The Lost EP” in 2022.

Paris knows who she is and no one can tell her otherwise
Raised by a black father from a prominent black family, the white-looking Jackson has always claimed to be black — despite critics who claim otherwise.
At the 2017 meeting with The Straits TimesJackson explained that she constantly deals with questions about her racial identity, but she will never give up on her truth.
“I consider myself Black. (My dad) would look me in the eye, point his finger at me and say, 'You're black. Be proud of your roots,” shared Jackson. "And I'd say, 'Okay, he's my dad, why would he lie to me?'
