Tom Holland says the project forced him to confront his sobriety
The thriller series, which explored heavy themes and complex emotional territory, proved to be a challenging experience for the young star. Although he has been open about his journey with sobriety in the past, Holland admitted that the pressures of the party made him question his resolve.
"I thought, 'If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it's going to be worse, right?'" he recalled.
The actor then admitted that he is very "strong-willed". "When I decide to do something, I really do it," he said proudly. Holland also relied heavily on his support system to get him through the experience. "I relied a lot on those close to me: family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, people who contacted me that I didn't know who were also sober," he said.

Tom Holland opens up about sobriety
Holland has revealed in multiple interviews that his decision to quit drinking was not prompted by a single dramatic event, but by the realization of his relationship with alcohol. In early 2023, he shared on the "Intentional with Jay Shetty" podcast that he tried the "Dry January" challenge and found it much harder than he expected.
After completing the challenge, Holland noticed how reliant he was on alcohol and decided to extend his sobriety last January. What started as a one-month experiment turned into a year-long commitment and ultimately a permanent lifestyle choice.

In addition to Holland and Seyfried, the series has an impressive cast, including Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase and Lior Raz. Guest stars include Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, Zachary Golinger and Thomas Sadoski—who is Seyfried's real-life husband.
Tom Holland is taking a break from acting
"It was a tough time, for sure," he said Extra. "We were exploring certain emotions that I definitely had never experienced before. And on top of that, as a producer, dealing with the day-to-day issues that come with any film set, it just added that extra level of pressure."
"I'm taking a year off now, and that's a result of how hard this show has been," he added at the time.
In another interview, Holland said that acting on the show provided valuable insight into his "own life".
