In the age of streaming, it can feel like an uphill task for a show to find its footing. Netflix and other major streaming platforms regularly cancel shows after only a season or two, long before they've hit their stride. That's what makes Young Sheldon feel like a holdover from a bygone era. The Big Bang Theory spin-off had an outstanding run on CBS, lasting seven seasons. Season 7's "Young Sheldon" proved to be the show's last hurrah, with the series finale airing in May 2024. Iain Armitage's run as Sheldon Cooper has ended. CBS decided to cancel the show, mostly because it seemed like the right time to end the show, creatively speaking. Even so, the cancellation surprised at least one cast member.
