The daughter had previously questioned John Amos's safety

Shannon Amos' death comes more than a year after she said her father was a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation and was hospitalized in critical condition. She made the allegations in a GoFundMe campaign, saying that John had called her from the Memphis hospital. Shannon did not specify who was running the alleged abuser, but said one of those people was a caretaker. Her GoFundMe campaign asked for $500,000 for alleged legal expenses, custody and aftercare.

But John Amos later denied his daughter's claims of abuse in a video message from his hospital bed. The actor cited confusion about fundraising. He also suggested that if anyone was to abuse it, it would be Shannon. He said they had problems with his hospitalization, claiming that his daughter had taken advantage of him.
