The second season of The Squid Game is here, and while the games aren't over yet (the season ends on a cliffhanger), the biggest loser so far is Gi-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), who after trying to lead an uprising was blinded by see Hwang In-ho aka "Front Man" (Lee Byung-hoon) stab him in the back. So now what? Where does this leave our hero and the future of the Squid Game organization? Well, luckily, we won't have to wait too long to find out.

Netflix has confirmed that they will re-enter the Squid Game in 2025, with the show ending its third and final seasonwrapping the streaming service's most popular series of all time. But while we wait for season three to arrive, audiences are currently left with several questions about what the future holds for this world of deadly children's games, organ harvesting and a boat that feels lost at sea. We've got a few lifters we're desperate to have answered whenever season three picks up again, and we break some of them down below.

Gi-hoon's plan may have been shot to hell, but the rebellion did bring an abrupt end to the games (at least for now) due to some of the remaining players being killed in the final showdown. You'd hope all those deaths weren't in vain, but it looks like the games won't be on hiatus for too long, as we see a quick tease of a new game in the post-credits scene. With Gi-hoon's location unknown, the show gives us a look at another game of Red Light, Green Light and that unmistakable giant robot girl. The difference here is that she's not alone: ​​there's a robot boy right next to her, which seemingly doubles the risk for any unwitting player who moves a muscle at the wrong time. There is also a literal traffic light on the screen to show players when they have a red or green light.

Because of this change, it's not about where this new series of games takes place, but when. The obvious assumption is that the games continued to develop even after Gi-hoon's failed plot, but there's also the possibility that we're seeing a flashback to the previous game series. Is this a setup that predates the current version of "Red Light, Green Light" we're familiar with, or have the frontman and his crew redoubled their efforts for carnage and murder in the first round? We'll have to wait until they make their move next year to find out.

As much as the second season covered us this year, one area that definitely needed some work was Officer Joon-ho's mission for a heated family reunion with his brother Man Front while trying to find the island. As Gi-hoon offers himself once again, the policeman who failed to successfully blow the whistle goes out to sea to find him, leading to the show's murkiest areas. With that in mind, is there a chance that the winds will pick up and Joon-ho will actually find what he's looking for and discover Captain Park's attempts at sabotage in the process?

We hope so, because this bad side character has been treading water for most of the season. And when he seemed to find something in the form of an explosive opening like "Lost", he bailed on that island, believing it to be a decoy for ... unclear reasons. We can only hope that when we return in Season 3, Joon-ho will finally land, or at least see his coveted spot on the horizon and be able to lend a hand to Gi-hoon, whose hope he just dashed competitions wide open. even harder.

When Gi-hoon ventured back to the games, he prepared himself for a near-impossible mission to be the only player who can finally expose this hellish tournament. He might have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that meddling Front Man/In-ho. The battle ended with In-ho winning and even killing Gi-hoon's best friend, Jung-bae. So now what? What state will we find Gi-hoon in when season 3 arrives, and what can he do to complete what he set out to do? More importantly, why did The Front Man keep him alive in the first place?

One possible option is that Gi-hoon's nemesis has plans that run deep into the games and may put him in an unimaginable position that Front Man found himself in years before. With In-ho taking over from Oh Il-nam after his departure, is the new boss looking for a protégé to work alongside and see potential in the only other player to survive two games (so far)? It would certainly make for a twisted finale if that were to happen, but we have a feeling that Gi-hoon is standing firm against everything that's going on and won't be willing to play nice.

Considering how things went at the end of Season 2, it certainly looks like a contestant takeover isn't a common occurrence in Squid Game history. But the rebellion is easily quelled by the end of the season, which begs the question: How will the surviving players return to play the games again? Will everyone simply return to the way it was before the armed rebellion began? Again, the fact that so many of the resistance fighters are killed certainly implies that the players who continue to vote to stay and play more games have an advantage: a huge number of "leave" voters are now dead.

The man on the front may regain the upper hand for now, but how will he handle the united front of both Gi-hoon (if and when he gets out of custody) and the brother he thought he killed last season? For the final big rush of season three, The Squid Game really needs to pull something special out of the bag, but that raises another question: Will Gi-hoon live to see how things really end?

For a character who started out as a selfish, undefeated fighting father, Gi-hoon certainly turned around. He just had to see copious amounts of death and play horrible games to do it. However, he's become every hero we're all rooting for, hoping he'll actually stick with the game's mysterious masters. The biggest concern, however, is how much will it cost Gi-hoon to be victorious? After three matches and countless dances with death, is there any chance that the squid game will kill its former champion when this is all over?

Every epic story needs a hero who will make their last stand against whatever threat they face, whether they make it out alive or not. In Gi-hoon's case, there is undoubtedly something poetic about the man who started the games in him for himself, only to then put his life on the line for others. Then again, the show could take a very dark and shocking turn and put Gi-hoon in the last place you'd expect: running the games in the future, just like former winner Front Man. According to "Squid Game" creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has a reason why this all ends with the third season and hopefully we'll get some answers soon.
