With "Squid Game" With Season 2 leaving audiences on the edge of their seats, fans are already buzzing about what the future holds for the hit Netflix series.

In a recent interview, creator-director Hwang Dong-hyuk offered tantalizing hints about the third season, teasing even bigger stakes, unexpected alliances, and deeper dives into the show's mysterious power structures.

Although the details remain under wraps, the "Squid Game" director promised that the upcoming season will continue to provoke moral dilemmas and shocking twists for both its characters and viewers.

The third and final season of the hit Netflix series was previously confirmed to be released in 2025, but now that the second season has ended, fans are already anticipating what to expect.

But what I can say is that after the launch of season 2, I believe we will announce the launch date of season 3 soon. I'm probably expecting that to start around the summer or fall of next year.”

Regarding the story of the third season, Hwang Dong-hyuk said that “Gi-hun has lost everything, including his best friend, and all his attempts have failed, now, what will he be like? What state will Gi-hun be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue with the mission? Will he give up or persevere? And so you will meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin season three.”

To put it more simply, “Gi-hun will not be the man he was in the second season.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk explained that splitting the story into two seasons seemed the most natural choice, allowing season 2 to center around a significant narrative arc for Gi-hun. This decision ensured a focused exploration of his character's journey while setting the stage for the next chapter in Season 3.

"You know, Gi-hun's rebellion failed, he ended up losing his best friend... I thought it would be a really adequate time to rest and continue in the next season."
