An actress Regina King says goodbye to 2024 with a touching tribute to his late son.
The Oscar-winning actress and standout star of Netflix's “The Harder They Fall” put together a special Instagram post on Christmas Day to honor Ian Alexander, Jr., recording artist and King's only child.
Unfortunately, Aleksandar took his own life in January 2022.

Regina King dedicates 'Perfect' to her son
Using Alexander's career as a music artist for inspiration, King shared seven of her favorite albums from the past year on the social media app.
In the caption of her Instagram post, the "Shirley" star explained that the album number holds special meaning for her and her late son.
"At the end of the year, I wanted to share with you my seven favorite albums of 2024," King wrote.
"Why 7?" she continued "Because seven is Ian's favorite number and the number of completion - the perfect way to look back at the highlights of the past year."
Some of her picks included the recent "GNX" by Kendrick Lamar, "Chromakopia" by Tyler Kreator, "Empathogen" by Willow Smith and the soundtrack to the biblical comedy "The Book of Clarence."
King closed her post with a warm holiday greeting.

"I wish you and your families the faith to believe, the energy to create, and the love to maintain a peaceful and joyful holiday season." May that faith, love and joy be carried into the new year and beyond."

The tragic loss of Regina King's son, Ian Alexander, Jr. and its consequences
On January 21, 2022, the entertainment world was rocked by the sudden passing of King's son, Ian Alexander, Jr., at just 26 years old.
Writers for Love B. Scottentertainment blog, was the first to announce the sad news with a post that many felt was insensitiveespecially since King herself has not spoken about it.
A backlash ensued and the post was eventually removed.
One day later, King will release a statement through her representative who confirmed the tragic news.
"Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian," it said.
“He is such a bright light who cares so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respect during this private time."

In addition to being a recording artist, Aleksandar was also a disc jockey. He often performed under the stage name Desduné.
Less than two weeks before his death, he released his final single, "Green Eyes."

King finds her way back to acting after losing her son
Following her loss, King will take a two-year hiatus from acting.
She will slowly re-enter the spotlight in early 2024 with "Shirley," a Netflix production based on the life of the first black female vice presidential candidate, Shirley Chisholm.
In an interview with "Good Morning America" that aired in March, King talked about losing Alexander and how it affected her progress.
"I'm a different person now than I was on January 19," she told Robin Roberts, citing the actual date of Ian's death.
"I understand that sadness is love that has nowhere to go. I know that it is important for me to respect Ian in the entirety of who he is, I talk about him in the present because he is always with me. The joy and happiness that he gave us everything."
While time would allow her to process Ian's choice, King admitted it wasn't that easy.
"I respect and understand that he didn't want to be here anymore," the actress said, "and that's hard for other people to accept, because they haven't lived our experience, (or) lived Ian's journey. so mad at God why should that weight be placed on Ian?"

A heartfelt moment between King and Jimmy Kimmel brought everyone to tears
A week after the GMA sit-down, King would visit "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote "Shirley."
The talk show host, known for his wit and sarcasm, instead greeted the actress sweetly as he asked her how she was feeling at the moment.
With a genuine smile, she replied, "I'm fine right now."
Kimmel then tried to acknowledge King's difficult year, but got choked up along the way. That would prompt the actress to reach for his hand.
“Nice to see you, Jimmy,” she continued.
After a moment, he replied, "Nice to see you too."
King remains 'proud' to be 'Ian's mum'
While speaking with Roberts, King stated that she was tired of focusing on Ian's death and instead wanted to celebrate the time she had with him.
“My favorite thing about me is being Ian's mom,” she noted, continuing, “I know it's important for me to respect Ian for who he is, to talk about him in the present because he's always with me. The joy and happiness he gave us all."
