From there, the story jumps forward two whole years, highlighting what seems like a long standoff between our hero and the masked villains.

In a world where every second counts and choosing the right sugar cookie can be a matter of life and death, there's something to watch out for due to the fact that The Squid Game picks up a full two years after the events of the last episode from last season. . While he may have been lucky to make it out alive, Gi-hoon is nowhere to be found in finding the game masters behind his haunting experience, even with the help of a team paid to monitor the subways for the mysterious Recruiter who lured him into the nightmare to begin with. .

But in all that strike time, what were the evil people behind the games doing? How much did they follow our hero, and more importantly, how much did they infiltrate his life after his victory? It's all well and good to pay a team to go hunting, but who's to say that those he hired don't already have another employer? Any impasse in following the masters of the game could be a setup from the inside. He needs someone he can trust. Someone who has a reason to go back over the fence and into the eyes of that head spinning doll. Unfortunately, that person is busy in a boat with a fisherman to keep him company.

The determined cop Joon-ho (Wi Ha-joon) returns to the case even after the misstep of being shot and nearly falling to his death last season. Now re-applied as a traffic cop after his failed efforts to reveal the games to the world, he has spent the last two years trying to find the island that miraculously disappeared. Seemingly every day, Joon-ho sets sail with the fisherman Captain Park, who pulled Joon-ho from the sea after he was shot last season.

Day after day, Joon-ho and Captain Park sail around, trying to find the island, with absolutely no luck. Of course, two years is a long time for a ridiculous company to cover its tracks, and chief among them is Joon-ho's brother, Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hoon), aka the frontman, who carries the legacy. left behind by Oh Il-nam (Oh Jeong-su). The last time the two met, Joon-ho's older brother shot him and nearly sent him to his death to keep his new profession, so there's no telling what lengths he's willing to go to ensure that it will remain so. For now, the only sensible game plan is to binge the entire series and make sure no one picks an umbrella this time.
