When creating the track, Carey hoped it would become a holiday classic.
"My goal was to do something timeless, so it didn't feel like the '90s, when I wrote it," he added.
Now, 30 years later, the song is still one of the most popular tracks of the season, which Carey attributes to the fact that he "really, really" loves Christmas. "It's not fake," he insisted.
Despite his genuine love for the holiday season, in a November interview with The New York Times Carey revealed that his 1994 Christmas album almost didn't happen.
"I felt it was too early in my career," he told the outlet.
Eventually, Carrie's love for the holiday won out and she eventually became known as the Queen of Christmas.
This year, Carey earned his accolades for the season starting on 16-date Merry Christmas One and All Tourwhich made various stops across the United States and Canada from November 15 to December 17. (His 2023 holiday tour had a total of four shows in Toronto and New York City alone.)
Mariah Carey has already decked her halls, but many other musicians are getting into the spirit of the season this year with original holiday songs. "Last year we didn't go across the country," he told ABC News. "So this year we're doing it."
Carey hoped the tour would give his fans "the happiest of Christmases" and allow them to enjoy "being together".
He went on to tease that new music is "on the horizon," hinting that he's recently been "writing new songs" and spending time in the studio "working on something with a choir."
